Your sentences are composed of different cells as their own sentence called a proposition. The sentence is based around the verb and seperate the main cell from it's subsidiary.
I want to eat, because my stomah hurts. "i want to eat" being the ain meaning of your sentence and it's subsidiary linked by a connector expressing the cause.
There is also enclaved proposition where the main tense is disbanded. ex. And it is, like i said, a connundrum.
A comma can be also used for the litterary reenactment of speech pattern implying a pause. You have different Propositions/tenses that are subsiduary or equal to the main tense. You can either separate them by a comma or by an additive like "and" or "to"

English is a mess of a language anyway, as long as whatever your saying is understood by your readers then in casual or fictional writing it really doesn't matter. In fact due to most people using commas as a pause it can actually help the writing as it makes the language flow easier in your average readers head.
