Acid attacks mean a lot to women because there's big money in exploiting sympathy for women.

If you look at acid attacks throughout the world, something like 50% of the victims are male on average, in some areas there are more women on average or more men on average, but it's not like even 80% are exclusively female victims. Acid attacks are almost by nature the type of thing women are more prone to do... but male victims get completely ignored. Even the few cases where the female-centric charities help a few males out, it's just a tiny bit of assistance, and the industry as a whole relies on genderising the issue, just like domestic violence, to make money.

So basically, girls care about acid attacks because they're ignorant or selfish, or a combination of these.
