You're not wrong. Estrogen makes people consider emotions and feelings than testosterone, and women are more likely to openly discuss their depression. However, I think its usually not for attention, as much as it is for validation.
If you have depression, you can know how easy it is to spiral into total self loathing, and it can be hard to differentiate the illness from reality. Women just tend to be more vocal about this.

Society perceives depressed men differently than depressed women.

Men are condemned, insulted and told to fucking deal with it, lift, etc. They're dismissed. Most men are also more reticent to come forward about their depression.

Women that come forward are received with just about all the coddling, compassion and empathy imaginable. They don't even have to come forward. A girl need only sit by herself looking somewhat sad to trigger others' sympathy and warmness.

People still expect men to uphold traditional societal expectations. They're supposed to solve problems for themselves. Also, men are objectively more expendable.
