What is your favorite animal, /R9k/, and why? Mine is pic related, i think they're super neat, but being a New Zealander i'm biased.
hard to pick a favorite, I really like toads and cats but I think I'll go for pig
ever since I was a kid I've always wanted a pig, a big fat pig that I can pet and hug, they seem so comfy

motherfucking cuttlefish
motherfuckers can turn their skin different colors and patterns instantly and at will, as well as the texture of the skin. they could literally grow spikes if they wanted to. they can make their skin grainy like sand or smooth at a moment's notice.
they only have one ovular disk-shaped bone and they travel via a propulsion tube + a flesh skirt.
cuttlefish are the best animals on the planet hands down.
worst is the guinea pig. fuck guinea pigs.

So many plebs and kiwis. Nd is fulla robuts.
Binturongs are cool.
Dogs are unironically my favorite animal. I know it's a pretty normalfagish answer, but I can't help myself. Everything about dogs is fucking great. They literally evolved alongside us, destined to become our best friends.
If it has to be a non-domesticated animal we didn't purposefully evolve into our companions, I'd go with elephants. They're pretty damn great animals and it's a shame niggers and chinks are hunting them to extinction just because their teeth are pretty. Maybe the chinks and niggers hunt them because they're jealous of how much smarter and stronger the elephants are than them?
I fucking love pigeons.
People call them flying rats and have so much hate for them and I can't understand why. They're extremely gentle, trusting, inquisitive little birds and they have so much character. They're not aggressive like the robin or territorial like the seagull, they're just cute little puff balls. I keep going into my city centre, sitting on a bench with a coffee and feeding an entire loaf of seeded bread to the resident pigeons there.
Picture related, they know me so well now they've began flying up and sitting on my arms/shoulders.
>>37168669
They're also incredibly intelligent. Pig's intelligence is greater than dog's and equal to that of a three year old human.
>>37168908
One of the reasons I'm vegan.
If we did this to dogs there'd be a global outrage the same way there is with China's yearly Yulin festival, but for a creature that possesses even greater intelligence apparently it's good to gas them, slit their throats or boil them to death, sometimes even worse.

I'm so ashamed I'm not vegetarian. I tried once when I was a kid, but I ended up basically forced to eat meat. I still rely on other people for meals, so it's still continuing in a way. No one in my family knows or taught me how to cook much, all the simple recipes are meat based, and all cheap/convenient restaurants have menus completely revolved around meat. It makes me dumbstruck to think that these days it's actually easier to slaughter/prepare an animal for a meal than to just have a plant-based diet. I don't crave meat, I'd give it up in a day if I had the money and skills to make decent food without it. Fucking meat-eating normalfags imposing this shit on me.
Also, while I certainly would like to become a vegetarian, I really don't see the point of being vegan. As long as the animals are well taken care of, I don't see anything wrong with using their milk/eggs/etc. I know most animals are treated like shit in these situations, but there definitely are cruelty free farms that can provide such luxury items.

Oh you sweet Summer child. I didn't either, and then one day I came home and decided to research dairy properly and I spend the rest of the afternoon sobbing after having discovered the reality behind the industry. Milk is probably the worst of all because it directly feeds into the leather and beef industries.
The basic process is, all dairy cows are restrained on a metal frame referred to within the industry as a 'rape rack', where they're then artificially inseminated, a painful process which involves the cow having its ass fisted by the person doing the insemination. When they become pregnant it's obviously then that they begin harvesting their milk, but it's common for farmers to abuse this to the extent that most cows develop infections in their udders or mastitis (fun fact, all dairy contains a degree of pus because of this). When the calf is inevitably born, if it's a boy, because it can't produce milk it's immediately removed from it's mother and then killed, or sent away to be restrained in a tiny crate barely able to move so that its muscle wastes away and then it can be slaughtered for veal. If it's a girl, they're fitted with a spiked nose ring to prevent them from drinking up all the milk that the farmers want to sell to you (picture related), and as soon as she's old enough to breed she gets to take a trip to the rape rack, just like her mother. The mother cow is then taken away to be raped and impregnated once more, and this is repeated on average for approx. 3 years.
They stop then because after 3 years of repeated pregnancies without rest, the cow stops producing as much milk, and becomes useless to the industry. She's then sent off to slaughter. Average life expectancy of a cow is 22 years.
I used to live on a farm and I'll never forget the screams and the wails these poor creatures made when their babies were taken from them. They do it for weeks.
>>37170526
ah fuck i was drinking milk man
>>37170526
That's pretty hot.
Someone should make a TGTF comic centered around a farmer being turned into a cow girl and taken to the 'rape rack'.
>>37170526
not only this, but milk can contain some nasty shit in it (quite literally) and isn't all that good for you
there's a reason why a large percentage of the world is lactose-intolerant
>>37170411
>>37170526
Also not trying to guilt trip you or anything but if you ever seriously consider going vegetarian, the best advice I've ever received is before you even consider taking anything out of your diet, you must first add to it. Not many people are capable of going cold turkey completely, most fuck up a lot at first or make a lot of excuses in the beginning, and it's normal, and it's fine because it's not the journey that matters, it's the destination.
Seriously though once you go vegetarian or vegan you come to learn that it's actually easier to eat this way than it is on an omnivore diet, you just have to learn to cook is all. Once you start learning recipes it all becomes so simple and so cheap. I never realised just how expensive cheese and meat was until I stopped eating it. Now I make all my own cashew, almond, hazelnut butters, hummus, soups etc. and it's great.
>>37170526
>american farms
>>37170526
Like I said, I know the big business side of the industry is shit, but there are certainly cruelty free farms out there that obviously charge more so they don't have to resort to such tactics.
>>37170602
I don't know much food costs in general. I'm a broke ass NEET moving mooching what I can. There's no way I'd be able to do this any time soon. I certainly can't keep fresh produce in this horse because of how disgusting my living situation is which also means none of the cookware is ever clean. The animals can suffer for a little longer while I get myself out of this hellhole, it's not like the industry is going away any time soon whether in vegetarian or not.
cats
or civets, they're nice to work with
>>37170618
These aren't American standards senpai, this is the global standard. Pretty much every big dairy farm is like this. Farmers like to pretend that they love and care about their animals, I always immediately ask them "so what do you do with the male calves then?". Ofc they don't answer that one. They never do.
>>37170618
>but there are certainly cruelty free farms out there that obviously charge more so they don't have to resort to such tactics
Oh I'm sure their are, but there in a pitiful minority, and you've probably never purchased a 'product' from them before.
One of the principles that I'm big on endorsing is that it doesn't matter how kind or how caring a farm is. There is no such thing as humane slaughter, as much as there is no such thing as a humane rape. Slaughter is just another word for murder, and you cannot humanely take away the life of a being that does not wish to die.
>>37170737
I'm not trying to guilt trip you or anything so I'm sorry if that gave you the impression. I guess I just get enthusiastic when I see other people talking about animal rights and caring about animals as much as I do. Good luck with your living situation Anon, I hope it improves for you soon.
>>37170361
raccoons are one of the primary carries of rabiesm spooky stuff
>>37170737
Cruelty-free farms still practice this, why would they keep an expensive and profitless male calf alive just for the sake of it? Every dairy farm kills male calves
And it's not going away sure but the rise of vegetarianism and veganism is having a huge effect on the industry.
>>37170898
Oh for sure. The dairy industry is currently shitting its pants in the wake of the surge of alternative milks right now, and the better news is that it's only growing. There really has never been a better time to go vegetarian/vegan, and I'm glad I did it sooner rather than later. Hazelnut milk is fucking delicious and I'm addicted to Vego bars.

I know there are plenty of tasty vegan snacks, but what kind of vegan meals are there? Nothing vegan seems like it'd be filling enough to be considered a meal. I could make do without meat, but meals without meat usually end up having eggs or cheese to make up for it in a way.
>>37171213
>but what kind of vegan meals are there?
>nothing vegan seems like it'd be filling enough to be considered a meal
Well I mean unless you're talking about packaged meals/ready meals, it just sounds like you don't know how to cook. There are literally hundreds of thousands of vegan recipes, you just don't know about them is all.

idk. Before I became vegan I was pretty much like everybody else here. I was apathetic, listless, without a goal in life, didn't give a shit. Veganism changed more than just my diet, and although I didn't plan for any of it I'm glad it did. If I seem enthusiastic it's just because I really care.
