Is it worth driving 20 miles one way for a 9.50/hr dishwashing job? They guarantee full time and say I can start asap, but I'm worried about the wear on my car and fuel costs.
>>
If there's nothing better why the hell not maybe you'll make some connections, maybe you can get free food, a girl or more pay because of the commute, idk man it's not a lot of money but it's something
>>
>>37158324
I don't know man I live in a small town and it's the same thing here. You have to drive 20-30 minutes one way for a part time minimum wage job. Going 60 mph.

But I don't have it hard right. 20 minutes doesn't sound too bad for full time tho but 4 hours a day no it's stupid.
>>
No, it's not

You're literally working for gas money
>>
>>37158324
no but unless you got something better what else is there to do. I drove 60 miles each way for work, was super glad when they finally let me go. keep it up anon, life sucks and it probably isnt going to get better for people like us.
>>
>>37158324
Depends how reliable your car is. Is this freeway miles we're talking? I would say take it, then look for something closer when you have experience.
>>
Unless they have you working to death and you're getting fat overtime pay, no. Find something closer.
>>
It's easier to find a job if you already have one so maybe.

But long term no
>>
I once tried working for one of those Geek Squad. mobile computer repair company's. I quickly gave up on that after i realized i was actually losing money. If you deducted the money i had to spend on gas with all of the money i "earned" it ended up being a negative number
>>
>>37158870
Oh and another thing i forgot to add. If their computer failed again with 5 days of you going out there you where expected to go out there to repair it for nothing. At your own expense.
>>
>>37158870
Still though a car should get 20 miles to the gallon at least and that's only like 3 bucks worth of gas. Are you guys driving hummers?
>>
>>37158324
do it fgt. for the money in the mean time. while you're doing that you can look for a better job with more money.
>>
>>37158324
m80 it will be nothing compared to the wear on your soul and body. you will possibly tear a ligament by the end of one year, I did when I was washing dishes
>>
>>37158324
No. Find something closer
>>
>>37159025
>tears a ligament while washing dishes
Are you a super fat fuck? Also, OP here, I'm a relatively fit manlet, so that probably works to my advantage in this context.
>>
>>37158978
No it's not that I'm driving a hummer it that these company's pay shit all. By making you a freelancer
>>
>>37158978
It's 20 miles one way, 40 round trip. And it's not just about the gas, but the travel time and wear on your car.
>>
>>37159068
>relatively fit manlet
I am 145lbs and probably leaner and stronger than you. It's the repetitive motion that will tear your ligament dumbfuck but your bitch ass will probably quite before 2 weeks anyways
>>
>>37158324
9.50 full time will more than make up the gas costs. There are other benefits, like girls, connections, possible friends. None of its easy but if it's a good environment you could have fun. You're looking at 1300 a month and if you live at home you can save up quickly
>>
20 miles isn't that far unless it is start/stop traffic.

I notice impatient people seem to wear their cars down much faster.

Of couse vehicle wear doesn't matter to me since I get my parts from auto-wreckers and can replace them myself. Stuff like tires is easy to tell.
>>
>>37159134
Are you rich? My friend used his nice ass truck to deliver pizzas in a town 20 mins over but he seemed to break off okay with it. They also payed extra for gas so.
>>
>>37159134
Wear on the car isn't a big deal if its not already failing apart. Putting 20000 miles in one year is not twice as damaging as 10000, it's significantly less
>>
>>37159157
That's before taxes, gas, and potential car repair costs with that long ass commute for being a dishbitch. Plus I don't think the friendship shit will work out due to the distance.
>>
>>37159233
>Putting 20000 miles in one year is not twice as damaging as 10000, it's significantly less
It's time to stop posting dear

>contemplating driving 20 miles for a dishwashing job

>>37159147
We weight the same but I'm probably shorter and more muscular, you frail little bitch.
>>
i go 14 miles to reach my wagecuck center for tenbux an hour and the scant tips i get on top of that are still good enough to cover all gas, drugs, porno expenses.

first post was best post; i don't really agree with everyone saying no outright. if that's all you can get for now... well, it has to suffice. you can do worse. don't drive like a retard and you'll be ok
>>
>tfw have to resort to mturk because i can't leave the house
>>
>>37159376
I guarantee you don't make it a full month. please come back and post on /r9k/ again so I can make fun of you
>>
Kek. Minimum wage is 11 p/h here

how much does that make you?

>>37159401
I'm a broke, unemployed loser NEET with no skills at 33, you can make fun of me now, you dumb fagit. But I still bet I'm better looking and in better shape. It's one of my very few good points...
>>
>>37159582
>how much does that make you?

I get about $100 every 5 days.
>>
>>37159725
is it worth it per hour though? Like what do you make per hour, if you ever calculated it?
>>
OP, let me put things into perspective for you.

When businesses have vehicles that are driven for business purposes, they use the standard mileage rate to calculate the expense of driving, maintaining, and repairing that vehicle over the recorded business miles.

For 2017 in the US, that rate is 53.5 cents per mile. If you do the math, you're effectively spending spending $21.40 every day you work by driving there and back.

At $9.50 hourly, you can work that off in less than 3 hours. However, you can say you make a different effective hourly rate due to the regular expense needed to do your job.

If you work 8 hours in a day, that's a total of $76. Minus the expense for driving and you get 54.6 dollars per day. Divide that by eight hours and your effective hourly wage is $6.825.

Of course, you can't deduce your driving expenses on your tax returns like a business or a self-employed person can. Commute, or driving from your home to your normal place of work, is not considered driving for business purposes. If you had a job as a pizza delivery man, your mileage from the pizza place to each of your deliveries would be something you could deduct.

Keep in mind that because you can't deduct the driving expenses, you get taxed like a person making $9.50 an hour.
>>
>>37159292
Diminishing returns on wear
20000 over two years will be more wear than 20000 in 1 year
>>
I drive a scooter 23 miles to college and it costs me 2 bongs in fuel a day and takes me 45 minutes.

If I was in a car the traffic would make the journey 90 minutes but i can filter on my scooter.

20 miles is too far for a part time job but if youre not doing anything else then its fine
>>
>>37159750
I have not figured it up but I'm sure it would probably be abysmal. I just open it in a new tab every once in awhile during the course of my 8-10 hours on the computer per day.
>>
>>37158324
I used to do that. It sucked but I lived out in the sticks and that was the only job I could get. Gotta do what you gotta do.
>>
Yeah bro. Gotta save up for you Nissan Altima
>>
>>37158324
buy a motorcycle, sell the car., thats the only way to make it worth it.

What type of car do you drive? Also, 10 an hour, 40 hours a week is 400 a week, 800 a paycheck, 1600 a month. After taxes you looking at about 1200 a month, and thats if uncle sam dicks your ass hard.
Youd be spending AT MOST 300 a month if you fill your car up with premium (which i HIGHLY reccomend) if its not stop and go traffic and an oil change every month and a half or 2000 miles is about $40 then again, thats if theyre dicking your ass hard. Plus 150 for insurance for said car. So you have roughly 800 bucks extra in your pocket assuming you live with your parents and dont have to pay for rent or food. Its not a living wage but if your concerned about your car or wear and tear (most of which can be prevented with regular oil changes and routine maintenance) it would take you roughly 4 months (not that long when you think about it) to save up and get a reliable fuel efficient commuter car with lower miles (buick centuries on craigslist usually have around 120-160K granny miles and can be found for less than 3000 bux.) And yes dishwashing is a shit job, but you would get mad free food, free drugs, probably free drinks at the bar and you get to look at fine waitress ass all day. Go for it bruh.
>tfw socially awkward retard
>tfw everyone in resturants usually are too
>tfw you fit right in and form a comraderie with line cooks, other dishwashers and get waitress pussy all day err day
>>
>listening to the advice of robots
cyborg here, do it.
What else are you going to do? sit home being depressed? may as well be depressed at work while earning some money.
>>
>mfw no one has even asked / mentioned public transportation, carpools or any other non-self commuting method to get to work

I guaran-fuckin'-tee there is either a public bus that will pick up / drop off within blocks from your house and work. Also, look on craigslist for carpooling and shit. God damn OP are you really that dense?
>>
>>37158324

that 100 dollars a day, free meal and whatever you can sneak out. Work 4 days a week and live like a king. An hour drive for a commute isn't bad. Maybe you can find something closer and take public transport??
>>
>>37158324
Yeah. Fuel costs are negligible in the us and cars are for driving.

If you don't have a better job lined up, take this one before someone else does.
>>
>>37158324
That's less than $3 a day for gas assuming you don't have a guzzler, but let's go ahead and round that up to $5. Since you're working full time, you're profiting ~$71/day of work, for approximately ~$1420/month. Assuming you're living with your parents for free or at least cheaply, (why else would you be driving so far for shit job rather than moving?), that means you have very few expenses beyond car maintenance and maybe food. You can actually save a decent amount of money by doing this, though the commute will suck really bad.
>>
>>37161390
What kind of commie shithole do you live in where public transportation is a viable option? OP is talking about 20 miles, that would take several hours on a bus.
>>
>>37161530
step outside your bubble, bro
>>
>>37161551
You're the one living in a bubble if you think public transport is a realistic option for most people.

OP here. I've been looking into other shit. I've been trying to be a busboy or overnight stockbitch but no luck so far. I could be a housekeeper or an HVAC helper working in the sweltering heat for $9/hr if they'd have me. I would totally wash dishes if it was close, but shit, that shit's far.

The worst part is not having any references and an 8 year employment gap. IDK how to overcome that shit. I've been looking into getting a CCNA with downloaded video guides to see if I could weasel my way into an IT job. Torrenting some shit right now.
>>
>>37161485
>>37161575
You are sad and very dumb piece of meat if you relate "communism" to "public transportation"
>obvious american('t) education and brainwashing is apparent
>>
>>37161605
I will write you a stunning recommendation saying that you have worked freelance for my online company for x years.
>>
>>37161614
Any place that wastes money on projects just for the benefit of poor people is a commie shithole. Therefore, any place with viable public transport is a commie shithole.
>>
>>37161644
>just for the benefit of poor people
You see, dumb-non if less back-country mole-hunting bass-ackwards hicks like you would stay out of the electorate, we all might be able to enjoy public transportation. But no, you have to actually have a completely erroneous voiced opinion that is counterproductive. Even more horrific is that other so-called "thinking" ne'er-do-wells actually support your logic.
Holy God am I glad I don't live in America(n't)
Enjoy eternal debt and literal slavery, car-boy.
>>
>>37161718
Why would anyone want to """enjoy""" public transportation? Why would you want to be near poor people on a smelly crowded bus instead of by yourself in your nice comfy car? Dumb fucking socialists.

>>
>>37161763
You are literally so dense you have no clue if there is or is not a difference between communism and socialism so you interchangeably use the two terms as if they meant the same thing.
I'm sure a lot of those people on that bus wouldn't want to sit by you anyway, your negative mental balance is what smells.
>>
>>37161862
Wow great argument faggotron you sure convinced me, I'll definitely start voting for more taxes for the benefit of worthless poor shitters.
>>
>>37161890
So everything automatically goes back to "muh more taxes" This is right off of "Typical American Thinking Netflix Original (binge) Series" Don't you wagecucks get a tax-return anyway? When have you ever paid a penny in "taxes" that you didn't reclaim
It's us business owners that take the hit, Bubba.
>>
>>37161933
>Don't you wagecucks get a tax-return anyway? When have you ever paid a penny in "taxes" that you didn't reclaim
Confirmed for not knowing anything. You only get a small portion back if anything, and it was never the government's money to begin with. I also like how you dodged the issue of wasting the money on poor people.
>>
>>37159864
and then you factor in the time traveling, increased need for grooming yourself and food for energy. Increased need for sleep, you are probably down to $5/hr but what else are you going to do?
>>
>>37158377
Unless he's driving a 25-year-old pickup truck, he gets his daily gas money in one hour, two tops.
>>
>>37162078

Plus, all that time burnt up is less time for intense video game training to become the next hot digital athlete. Literally losing thousands of dollars every hour.
>>
>>37158324
Yes. I make much more than $9.50 per, but my job is 21 miles each way, and I spend about $25 a week on gas.

That would be about 3-3.5 hours of worth after accounting for taxes for you, leaving you with 36.5-37 hours of work left in your pay each week.
>>
>>37161605
look into delivering pizza OP. it's easy money and they hire anyone with a car

i made around $200 a day working full time last year. was pretty good
>>
>>37161605
>>37163098
also how is there nowhere closer than 20 miles away to wash dishes?

worst case scenario, just get a few part time jobs. less soulcrushing than driving so far for dishwashing (which is fucking shitty btw. i did that for a week and walked out)
>>
>>37158870

now i understand why microcenter doesnt do that shit.

just become a regular tech then
>>

yeh easy mode until you get your first hood call and experience being at gunpoint

that sounds like great money but how much of that went into your car though
>>
>>37163098
Where the fuck did you work, the rich, very white part of America? I worked at Pizza Hut for a few years in an area with 40% blacks, and companies fuck you even harder nowadays than they did before. Higher delivery charges make people not tip as much since they assume it gets passed onto you(it doesn't), and most companies pay sub-min wage when you're on the road now. You at least used to get min wage the whole shift, but not anymore. I never made more than $100 on the best nights, of which I've only had 2-3. Typically it was $40-60 a night, and after car repairs and shit I'd rather work min wage.
