Did he really kill those people?
Look at my dual-numbers Halberstram!
He was probably actually Halberstam the entire time.
Think about it.

Then.. was Halberstram, Bateman?
>>37137284
the point is that he can get away with it even if he did.
but no i think it's just his inner psychotic conflict
>>37137284
The whole movie wasn't real. A man emerged from the shadows and drugged you right before you thought you watched it. It happens to all of us. We all just share a common hallucination.

I own a copy of American Psycho, a real, physical book.
Is that a lie? Come to think of it... I never really remember reading it, just knowing it.
>>37137284
no
it's all a hallucination
the book sort of makes it clearer i think
>>37137284
Yes. The entire function of the satire in the story was to point out how little people care about the lives and actions of other humans.
>>37137857
I also think he really killed some hookers and hobos. His latest spree doesnt seem real to me tho.
>>37137284
Yes, I think it happened. Maybe not all, but most. I think it's meant to emphasize how little people care others in search for monetary gain (cleaning the bodies and painting the bloody walls in the apartment so it could be sold). It's could also emphasize how everyone looks so similar in the higher class and how they all act the same, talk the same, resulting in a lack of identity
The real question is: what can we do to be more like him?
pats a good boi he dinnu nufin he get he life togethuh gon make dem ackwuhshitsunz
It probably didn't happen but it might as well have happened.

t. Someone who never read the book

this is now a brand new original get thread

well I mean we both throw autistic shitfits so we must be doing something right
The whole point of the movie and book is that the yuppies are all so self absorbed and narcissistic that they can't even tell who is who because they all look and act the same. That's why they're always calling eachother different names and saying "Is that ______ ?"
It's likely that Bateman did actually kill a guy in the apartment but it wasn't Paul.
OR
He did kill Paul but because of what I mentioned above, people aren't raising suspicion because his lawyer is like "I saw Paul the other day" even though he actually saw someone else.
It's a statement on 80s yuppie culture.

BUT DID HE DO IT
>>37137284
No, he was an innocent stockbroker who was framed by the Jews.

Its a satire it dont matter if he did or didnt its the metaphor.
Its a Sopranos kind of situation but yeah he did, according to the writers
