I do the same. I once took part in a contest where I used a completely different name. I also pretended to be my twin brother who doesn't actually exist. You see, I wanted to avoid being recognized by people I know. I don't I have a real personality. Instead, I simply use a fake one depending on the place I'm at. Thankfully, I don't have to talk to people very often.
