Shit bricks and go to church or something
die from the flooding that just caused
If jupiter is that close I don't think there's much to think or do at all, considering we'd all be dead probably.
>>37112722
I would be horrified. I have a fear of Space. I would no longer be able to look up.
Wonder how I got to Europa
>>37112722
>get bombarded with Jupiters ionizing radiation in my sleep

>>37112722
i'd lay off the acid for a while
>>37112778
I don't really have a fear of space, but gas giants freak me the hell out. Those are an acrophobe's worst nightmare, and possibly the closest you can get to an actual bottomless pit.
>>37112722
Thank fucking god, it's finally over.
>>37112811
>>37112765
could Earth orbit Jupiter from a "safe" distance?
>>37112918
That's incredibly reasonable, but even if i could clearly see them with no actual danger i'd be scared. And to think when i was a kid i wanted to be an astronaut. What went wrong?
>>37112953
Probably not without fucking the climate up to the point of fireball or snowball earth depending on factors, it'll make our current climate situation look like a blip.
>>37112722
There's a reason there's no gas giants within the asteroid belt. Gas giants can't form this close to the sun, that's why there's only rocky planets. So I'd instantly think it was a hallucination, projection, or something supernatural.
>>37112722
>what do?
Start fingering my ass
>>37113069
What about "hot jupiters"?
>>37112752
Lilll pussy, kek
>>37112953
well, we orbit the sun from a safe distance. so yes.
>>37113184
In that case, I'll enjoy our new celestial neighbor unless we have catastrophic events as a result of such a massive body this close to the planet
See this outside.
What do?
>>37113233
you're lucky i'm tired or id berate you for being stupid
What catastrophic events would having a planet that close suddenly appearing from nowhere be?
>>37112722
Write my name on it
>>37113337
I think the gravitational pull from the planet would either tear the Earth apart or swallow it whole.
>>37112722

>>37112953
All stable orbits around non-stars are more or less safe. Jupiter doesn't actually radiate much, besides the sunlight it reflects. Its gravity would cause some fuckhuge tides and probably earthquakes, but it wouldn't destroy Earth or anything.
>they will launch probes to Jupiter's moons within my lifetime
>I will see actual photos of Jupiter in the sky of Europa
This is the best time to be alive.
>>37113382
>what is an orbit?

>>37112873
I won't except these delusions. You'd all be DEAD as soon as we magically entered Jupiter's orbit.
>>37113599
why would we all be dead? or, how would we die?
>>37113691
If we were in Jupiter's orbit, we'd be much further away from the sun and our atmosphere would cool down significantly.
Gas giants emit radiation which would bombard our planet considering we're so close in the picture.
Meteorites and other satellites orbit Jupiter as well. The chances of collision aren't very high, but they could be catastrophic if we're impacted.
>>37113599
Okay, we also can't teleport to Europa's orbit, what's your point? Your problem is with us making pretend that we were in this situation and it's possible, not that the situation was actually posed?
get high and drunk while experiencing the downfall of planet Earth with the rest of 4chan, really the only thing left to do at that point
I believe the general sentiment would be:
/fit/ - lamenting that all our gains have meant nothing
/pol/ - pinnacle of doompaul posting
/v/ - deciding which games are best to play in the remaining hours/days
/sp/ - lamenting that all the athletes would rather spend this time with their families instead of competing
/r9k/ - honestly not even sure how this board would react, definitely a mix of positive and negative though
Kill myself because I don't want to experience the famines and inevitable destruction of Earth.
>>37112722
wonder why the hell did I step outside
>>37112722
I think it'd be pretty cool but would start to wonder how the gravity is affecting us
>>37113269
Shit bricks and go to a mosque or something
>>37113599
>magically entering Jupiter's orbit
>not magically bringing Jupiter to Earth's orbit so that Earth settles on a stable orbit around Jupiter, and placing the moons on new orbits as required
I'm pretty sure the sky wouldn't be that bright a blue where Jupiter is, anyway. Not enough sunlight.
>>37113798
>Gas giants emit radiation
I'm pretty sure they actually don't. They're not stars.
>Look up
>see moon explode into chunks
what do?
>>37114986
Master Roshi blew up the moon and the Earth is still fine.
I'd be terrified.
For some reason large floating stuff gives me a primal fear.
I once had a dream where the clouds were huge shapeless balloons of water floating at building level and they'd cast massive shadows.
>>37114902
>>not magically bringing Jupiter to Earth's orbit so that Earth settles on a stable orbit around Jupiter, and placing the moons on new orbits as required
We'd still have massively different climates because of this. Ranging from sahara like summers to arctic winters.
>I'm pretty sure they actually don't. They're not stars.
Google it.

berate the shit out of me. i'm curious. apart from the obvious distance from the sun issues.
>>37112953
So long it doesn't hit the Roche Limit. As for climate though, I don't know.
>>37115821
im high and im too chill to go full sperg on you. But there's this thing called the "habitable zone" which determines if the planet is capable of the necessities for life, one being if the planet is at the right distance from the sun while it's orbiting it.
>tl;dr planet too close to sun, too hot. Too far, too cold
