living out my 5 year old fantasy. I remember when I was 5 I wanted one so badly. my 12 year old brothers who I idolized rode them to taco bell or game crazy and that blew my mind (these places were only a few miles away but that seemed so far away at that age). I really wanted one so I could go anywhere I wanted by myself. the level of independence these things granted was almost mystical to me. a car just seemed like some unattainable boring adult thing. these things sounded so much more exciting and I suspect even if a car had been offered to me at that age I would have taken one of these instead. more exciting. But financially my family took a hit and I didn't get one. I still wanted one for the next year but eventually the obsession died. but if I had gotten one and a "bond" had been formed, I could easily see doing what that kid did, clinging to it even when more practical modes of transportation come along (obviously I have no idea why he rode it from this short greentext, for all i know it was just out of necessity).
