Noice quads bro, now let me tell you why you're stupid.

>exercise is a shit way to lose weight though, it makes you more hungry

Wrong. Exercise burns off fat quicker than any other way about it. Fat is just stored energy, no more, no less. Burning that energy is how you lose fat. Losing fat is simply burning more calories than you take in, so if you eat nothing but salad, and a lot of it, and exercised daily, you'd drop fat like Chris Brown drops bitches with his fist. Eating salads and healthy food fills you up, with less calories, so it makes burning off the fat much easier. I don't know where you got your information but it's as retarded as you.
>>
>>37031229
what is easier to do, work out for an hour to burn off like 500 calories, or just not eat a whole bagel with cream cheese on it?

>>
>>37031256
It's easier to eat low-calories foods and work out. Losing weight isn't easy, never has been, never will be, not in our quick and easy meal society. That doesn't mean simply eating a good diet and exercising won't do what you want it to. It will, it's medically, scientifically, and mathematically proven that fat is simply stored calories, and the only way to get rid of it is to burn more calories than you consume.
>>
>>37031318
you burn more calories than you consume by just eating less, though

exercise can only make up for so much calorie loss, but taking 2 seconds to not eat something is ridiculously easy

there are literally hundreds of studies that show it is possible for anyone to lose weight with minor shifts in diet and exercise. you cannot call it "not easy" simply because people choose not to do it. do you suppose that shitting your pants is "not easy" as well?
>>
>>37031014
HEh. They're nice and the whole self-acceptance thing is fine, but damn they're being ridiculous on the whole health aspect.
>>37031352
Exercising while dieting works better. It can help you maintain your metabolism and muscle mass. It's healthier.
>>
>>37031397
or you could just eat less to begin with and not have to exercise at all by eating at a deficit
>>
>>37031352
You won't burn as many calories.

Let's say an average male needs 2500 calories a day to maintain his weight. Let's say an obese person is consuming twice that, 5000, if the obese person HALVES his diet, going back down to 2500, he will neither gain nor lose weight, but he will feel the affects of being hungry. Simply "not eating" doesn't work, because let's say this obese, 800 pound man sticks to his 2500 calorie a day diet, his weight will still be at 800 pounds. Then, let's say this obese person cuts his calorie intake in half again, down to 1250, sure he'll lose weight, but he'll very nearly be consumed with hunger at that point. If the man completely changed his diet to consist of 2000 calories of salad (which is a shit ton of salad, let me tell you) he'd lose weight and not feel as hungry. If he then exercised the amount of time he'd need to simply "eat less" would be cut down by a LOT. This would help him stick to his diet, as he'd see noticeable results quicker, he'd be more fit, and he'd be overall healthier by the time he hit say, 200 pounds.

You're retarded. or pretending to be

An 800 pound man needs about 5560 calories to maintain weight.

If that person cut to 2500 calories, they would lose 381 pounds in 1 year, getting to 419 pounds without doing any exercise.

Light exercise (1-3x a week) would get them to 349lbs
Moderate exercise (3-5x a week) would get them to 289lbs
Daily exercise would get them to 236lbs

http://losertown.org/eats/cal.php
>>
>>37031769
My math is off, I'll give you that. The point remains though. As you stop eating to gain weight and instead maintain weight, you will notice a large shift in how often and how many hunger pains you feel. Exercise would greatly help with that, combined with eating low-calorie foods. It's not as simple as "eating less", that's preposterous.

Most people aren't fat enough for that to happen, without being middle aged or over. The average weight of an American male is around 200 or so pounds, which is doable in a workout environment.

You mistake eat less calories with eat less. The shitty food (snacks, fast food, soda) is very calorie dense and doesn't fill you up.

1 pound of potato chips is about 2560 calories and has 0g of fiber
1 pound of broccoli has 154 calories and 12g of fiber

The broccoli, despite being the same mass, will fill you up more as fiber is a key factor in satiety.

>>37031111
>>37031969
>>37031229
Exercise is great but unrealistic for the super obese (over 400lbs). Better to concentrate on diet instead.

The 800lber from before would have to exercise for an hour or more a day to match the calories burned from eating at a 3500 calorie deficit (2000 calories/day).

I doubt any of them could maintain that level of activity.

this anon>>37031352 has the right idea
>>37031463
>lets say an average male needs 2500cal a day to maintain
>an obese person is consuming twice that
and that would make him NOT the average person, meaning that his maintenance is about 2500calories. if he is consuming 5000 calories a day, he is either A). gaining weight or B). that is his new maintenance

If he halves it down to 2500calories he is eating at a deficit because he is NOT the average male so his maintenance is NOT 2500 calories

diet > exercise in losing weight, restated that means not consuming the calories to begin with is better than consuming those calories and trying to burn them off

go lose some fucking weight fat ass
>>
>>37031968
>muh metabolism
That is a meme. Unless you have some severe disorder, metabolism only accounts for a few hundred calorie difference between people. And usually it ranges from normal to higher metabolism, where people use excess energy due to various disorders such as hyperthyroidism.
>>
>>37032104
I already admitted my math was wrong, because it was. I was using the math to make a point, by pointing out maintenance and how that factors into weight loss. Losing weight Can be accomplished by simply "eating less", but exercising and building a healthy foundation will, in the long run, help you lose weight faster than simply consuming less food.
>>37032092
No, >>37031111 this anon simply said "eating less" not consuming less calories. He made no distinction between the two.

Consider what is easier for an 800lb slob to do:

1) Exercise for 1 hour a day
2) Stop buying that 3rd daily bag of potato chips

#2 will obviously be easier.
>>
>>37032177
>exercising and building a healthy foundation will, in the long run, help you lose weight faster than simply consuming less food
no thats wrong

its much easier to not eat the calories than it is to consume them and try to burn them off. exercise overall is a pretty inefficient way to burn off calories compared to eating less. thats why you eat at a deficit if you want to go on a cut
>>
>>37032207
"eat less"
not
"Consume less calories"
To try and convey that message you should've said something along the lines of, "Exercise can only make up for so much calorie loss, but taking two seconds to eat something with few calories is ridiculously easy."
>>37032222
Fine then, a 300 pound man. That's 100 pounds over, not grossly obese, but still very much overweight. Are you saying an hour of exercise wouldn't do anything for him if he stuck to it, combined with simply not buying that third bag of potato chips?
>>
>>37032260
i didn't say eat less in that sentence can you try rereading it pls
>>exercise can only make up for so much calorie loss, but taking 2 seconds to not eat something is ridiculously easy
>>
>>37029791
>so overweight she has to kneel on a pillow to not hurt her knees
>>
>>37032260
>combined with simply not buying that third bag of potato chips?
combined with eating less, he will lose weight, BECAUSE HE IS EATING LESS

he is consuming less + burning off calories
>>
>>37032260
I was 300lbs at my heaviest.

An hour of exercise was HELL at that point. Especially when I first started, I could only do about 15 minutes of stationary bike riding.

Changing up what I ate was a hell of a lot easier.

Instead of eating that bag of potato chips (I could eat a family size 1lb bag in one sitting), I started buying fruit for snacks instead.

Instead of a small bowl of cereal and milk, which are generally ok for you but not filling, I switched to a cup of oats and a banana to make delicious oatmeal.

I'm down about 40lbs now and can do about 45 minutes of cardio, but it's still very taxing.
>>
>>37032296
I'm advocating that physical fitness and exercise is just as important for losing weight as eating fewer calories is. I should've said, "Are you saying an hour of exercise wouldn't do anything for him if he stuck to it, combined with replacing his diet with, at the same volume, food that is less calorie-dense?"
>>37032325
I was nearly 300 pounds as well, I was roughly 280-290, and I found that exercise greatly helped me lose weight and get fit in the process. Simply losing the weight doesn't make you "healthy" just, "healthier". Maintaining an exercise regimen, even if you can do only the bare bones, is just as important to losing weight as eating less calorie dense foods.
>>
>>37032360
>is just as important
its not

thats the crux of the problem
>>
>>37032389
>no it's not
Yes it is.

Being healthy also requires a certain amount of exercise. Laying around all day and eating less won't make you healthy, you'll just reduce the probability of heart disease and diabetes and other weight-related problems.Exercise helps with that, and makes your body fit.
>>
>>37032442
we're not talking about being healthy though, we're talking about weight loss
>>
>>37032360
Then you must remember what it was like to do exercise at that weight. Nobody ITT is arguing that exercise isn't good for you.

At 300lbs, my maintenance consumption was about 2900 calories. You can easily cut down your calories by 1000/day to 1900, lose 2lbs/week and be at a healthy level in a year. This is without changing anything with your activity level.

If you kept your consumption level the same, you would have to do 1000 calories worth of exercise daily. That's about 1 hour of moderate effort cycling every day. If you're only able to do 15 minutes a day, like I was, you're only doing about 250 calories/day.

As the living meme Jordan Peterson would say, it's no joke to change fundamental parts of your life. You have to prioritize what you're going to focus on. If you try both diet and exercise but can't make it to the gym that day, it's really easy to fall back and fuck up your diet too.

Establish a good diet, then establish a good exercise routine. You'll be better off in the long run.

To summarize:
diet + exercise >> diet >>>> exercise

It is neither as important or as effective.

You can exercise for 4 hours a day and be obese although you'd have to try pretty hard
