Maybe. I'm INTP as well and in both romance and platonic relationships I'm REALLY drawn to INFPs and ENFPs. I always like other types who use Ne. I think it can never really work, though.

INFPs are too shy, full of angst and introversion (like) us so we awkwardly fumble at each other forever. They also tend to be emotionally unstable and we're not very good at helping them at that level. ENFPs, in my experience, will get along well with us for a little while but we are frankly too boring for them and they forget about us quickly because they are constantly meeting new people and making new friendships.

Honestly I have no idea what types INTPs are really compatible with in a long term sense. There seems to be no place for us.

I can confirm. I've known this has been a problem but I have no idea how to learn empathy. When people get overly emotional it seems to be usually for no good reason. As an INTP I can feel emotions, but it tends to be either 0 or 100. I was a driver so I didn't really have to do anything other than sit there while we got shot at and blown up. Strangely enough I was pretty steady in those situations and never lost my cool. I only joined because I had no real job prospects and got dumped by my gf and needed to get away. I kinda miss the army now because it was the last time my life felt like it had any sense of purpose, as pointless as the shit we did often seemed.

INTJ here, used to date an INTP. What I learned from the relationship is that INTPs are extremely detached and struggle a lot with emotional situation. I also felt like I never understood the guy too, despite trying so hard. It was also quite hard to confront issues, probably because of a tertiary Fi/inferior Fe clash (the INTJ would want to get things straight by arguments, while the INTP would try to diffuse the situation). Sometimes, he would finally have an outburst and try to put blame on me, and I wouldn't react any better.
I wasn't aware of the theory behind the MBTI at the time (just knew his type from the test), but after reading the theory can rationalize why he was like that (I'm that emotionally unintelligent).

INTPs I assume feel like they're too apathetic. However it's possible to change that. Making use of Fe might seem stressful at first, but it eventually works out. A bit of perspective taking helps. There is no place for logic and reasoning in romantic relationships so you might want to consider if you want to get tangled into such a commitment in the first place.
