It provides the affection and personal attention that I completely lack in life. I have watched the ones by the one in OP and many others. Many make a respectable effort to simulate eye contact, however nearly all of them fail to appear convincing because their eyes are pointing even a few inches too high and/or are focusing on one specific spot on or near the camera lens which makes it seem like they're focusing on a spot on a window when played back on a screen.

When someone is making real eye contact with you they are looking at both eyes and appear as if they would be focused on a spot several yards behind your head if they could see through it.
