haven't watched the anime but the manga pretty much shows how fucked up she is from the start, a social outcast at school even among self-harming loser girls.

I can get the whole wanting her to be an honest saviour thing but I enjoyed the pessimistic realism a lot more. At the end of the manga as far as I remember, as her and the protagonist are in a collapsing house, she says there's no possible way he could love her as she's only using him. He says he knew, and loves her anyway.

It's sort of true, but the manga is such an exaggeration and so incredibly hard to take seriously. The novel and the anime are much better and portray her in a much better way too. Not the crazy, manipulative girl she is in the manga.

Why haven't you watched the anime? Have you read the novel? I recommend both!

He basically hasn't written anything worthwhile (it seems) since NHK ni Youkoso, but as you are reading the novel right now I won't say too much. Just make sure to read the afterwords he wrote for some interesting insight into that topic (his writing and such).

I personally think that suicide works for everyone, it's just not as easy as the amount of "suicidal" people would make you believe. If one really has no chance of escaping that pain and the pain is sufficient enough for one to hate their life (to not be able to function) suicide should be possible.

I agree with the notion that there are multiple "degrees" of suicide. One can plan it well to make sure that is succeeds, making it an obvious non-impulse decision. Most impulse things like cutting or medicine ingestion fail because they are so incredibly hard to succeed in without an informed mind (and even then, they're not easy).

I'm not sure if I agree with the notion of miserable people rarely committing suicide suicide though. Sure, they make up a lesser amount of total suicides, but most suicides are not cases of people really being hopeless in the end. I don't think truly miserable people will live out an entire live, with the exception of some cases. I suppose you're right in mentioning that they rarely attempt suicide. That's true. They don't attempt suicide, they commit suicide.

Alright, you've told me enough. You "run away from your problems", meaning that they're solvable and that you're not truly desperate and hopeless. You're weak minded. There's a reason many suicides fail, they're not planned. They're impulses like cutting wrists and medicine ingestion, which are not good methods despite commonly believed. Do some research on it, maybe. Lots of studies are available and statistics gathered from those researches tell us a lot. Just a small statistic that I find funny/interesting; only 5% of attempted suicides by cutting succeed (hint; they are impulses).

Someone that really is done with life really wants to die, wants to die for longer than a sad evening (thus no impulse) and makes sure they actually die by researching. They don't want to fail as they don't carve more attention. Researching would reveal methods like guns, exit bags or even mere hanging. Suicide is often planned. Often things are ordered to make it succeed (think of things like exit bag parts, or even chemicals).

Just as a note; I don't mind you becoming angry and resorting to childish insults like this. I can understand your issue being simplified to "weak mindedness" being hurtful. I am sure you will get over it though. Many young adults these days get overwhelmed by the amount of responsibilities adulthood brings.
