I don't think most Texans have Texas pride. No matter how much the schools pressed us to have it, we got tired of the "bullshit" pledge and Texas history, which many considered boring. I wish I paid more attention to Texas history, and I still know Texas is the best state, but any semblance of real Texas culture isn't present on my barely sentient fellow Texans. The whiter parts sure- but most suburban areas, with lots of Hispanics and few patriotic whites, no. Only the country parts of Texas really truly have any pride.

I'll never understand humanity's affinity to be proud of a piece of land, enough to kill or die for it

The civil war wasn't even fought in Texas. Troops had to be moved all the way up there. Texas is more southwestern than actual south, and had much less to loose than places like Georgia and West Virginia. Texas had slaves, sure, but so did the north to a much lesser extent.

I moved here in 2001, starting my 3rd year of elementary school. The Texas history and US history were both really generous towards human rights abuses of both. And they were both really generous towards the achievements of either. And depending on which way you go, it's either good or bad that there is genuine religious pressure on what is publicly considered a secular education.

That doesn't mean that I don't like my state on principle though. And I really don't want to spend the time or effort comparing textbooks with primary sources. I mean, do you? These are just... like, my opinions, man.
