>tfw learning math
This is fun. Why don't you leanr math?
>>36872788
Wow! Basic subtraction? Slow down there OP, you will leave us all in the dust!
srs--is Khan helpful?
I'm a bit of a dunce when it comes to math. I haven't even passed American Algebra I.
help.. me..
>>36872853
pls don't be mean. I have to start somewhere.
>>36872788
But I already do, anon.
Uni fucked my shit up though so I'm not that active anymore on there. But I must admit it was really useful and inspiring.
Does anyone want to learn math with me?
Over the summer I guess
I want to learn linear algebra and ODE type stuff
Not sure how this is gonna work
>>36872853
>tfw to smart too know basic substractiom
>>36872788
I have a degree in math and yet still no gf
>>36872853
>tfw don't know basic subtraction or addition
Thank god for khan academy
>tfw no friends to solve math problems with
>>36872788
Assuming I'm a retard, which I am, besides multiplication, addition and subtraction (I can't divide) what should I learn in regards to maths that will give me actual real life uses?
>>36872910
>>36873074
So this is the power... of American education.
>>36872788
How the hell does a guy fit more than 72 teeth in his man
>>36873239
I'm not American
Just never learned cause lazy
>>36873161
>tfw no friends to develop neural networks with.
>>36872788
What site is this? I'd like to go there.
>>36873375
Kahn Academy. You should take notes and make sure to 100% every page with questions. I suggest watching video lectures on youtube as well.
>>36872910
Keep going OP. If you give up you're just wasting time. Might as well keep doing a bit every day.
OP I literally started from kindergarten and now I'm on algebra 2 after 2 months. Just keep at it. Anyone want a study friend to compete with?
>>36872788
Because I'm a brainlet + a mathlet. Teachers never thought me basic shit so I struggled with math throughout all my years in school. I hate math now and it made me hate school.
>>36872940
what website is this? is this kahn? if so im starting now its dope :)
>>36873347
Where do I start with neural networks?
I have always been interested, but never manage to actually start learning.
h-how bout we learn web dev together ? pls :------:
>>36872887
Kahn academy is pretty decent for learning basic math.
Holy shit, can we get /learning/ general or /Khan/ general?
>>36873666
having a learning thread on a board filled with porn is nOT the way to go.
>>36872788
keep going my nigga
join the 1,000,000+ points club
Maths is more of a means to an end in my eyes, but I don't mind it
How do I get the black hole badge?
>>36872910
Go learn some power rules then do some differentiation/ integration, if you don't understand it you'll get a neet confidence boost and its very simple.

If you are curious take a look at this book:
Neural Networks for Pattern Recognition - Christopher M. Bishop
There's a pdf online somewhere. Also pic related.
If you know math, you should be able to solve this. Even people who dont know a lot about it can answer based on logic.
Take any number. If the number is even, divide it by two. If the number is odd, multiply it by 3 and add one. If you repeat this with any number, will it reach 1?
>>36874152
Yes.
Proof:
Left as an exercise for the reader.
>>36873496
Yeah it's Khan-Academy.
>>36872788
Math has always been something I've never understood. Ever since elementary school, I've always been behind my peers. I was always told my grades for other classes were excellent but math was always the opposite.
Fuck it because I don't get it.
>>36874341
>Tfw lowest possible division for maths in high school, for people who were literal tards, sometimes
>tfw only person to pass (With a C)
also someone pls respond to me >>36873182
>>36872887
Yeah, Khan is pretty helpful
>>36873182
Trigonometry can be useful depending on the job. Specially if you're building something. Also, multiplication and division are the same thing. You should go back to the basics if you didn't know this. Having a good understanding of the basics will make you good in math.
>>36874469
>multiplication and division are the same things
nani?
>want to pick up calculus again from where I stopped years ago
>forgot some of the necessary algebra
>can't be bothered to learn all that shit again

give me the best superior alpha tier textbooks now please thanks!
>>36874879
math geniuses don't need textbooks for pre-graduate mathematics
>>36874515
Division is just multiplying by the reciprocal(I think that's what it's called) of something. The reciprocal of something is basically taking the number and turning it upside down. For example, you can express any real number with x/y, or to give you an easier to grasp example, 5/3. Its reciprocal is 3/5. So if you divide 15/(5/3), it would be the same as multiplying 15 by 3/5. So, division is pretty much the same thing as multiplication.
>>36873182
a lot but only if u work in some particular field.
otherwise it would be useful to understand things like statistics or basic calculations of compound interest for yourself yeah?
>>36874960
i don't know what compound interest even is. statistic are probably useful. ig geometry would be as well.
>>36874341
>tfw my highest score on the act was on the mathematics section, even with a dead calculator
>>36874950
Division doesn't always work like that you fucking retard, you can't do it with integers because there's no reciprocal
OP here
I'm so proud with myself.
>>36875049
>being proud of knowing math up to trig
nice bro
>>36875769
stop being so cunty, he's making progress and putting effort into something. I hate this shitty mentality.
>>36872788
>Americans don't even learn subtractions at school
If there were a similar site with more advanced problems, I would.
I wish there were sites like topcoder/codewars/codeeval, but instead of coding problems, it had math and physics problems. College was a long time ago, and I've forgotten so much.
>>36875608
>integers don't have reciprocals
>calling me a retard
Okay, kid.
60% Done with Math you bitches, git gud scrubs
>>36876761
1/2, 1/3, 1/4, ecc. are always fractional numbers, there aren't reciprocals of integers that are still integers
But you don't need to get out of the set of integer numbers to define integer division for certain divisions. 4/2 is obviously still an integer, for instance
Therefore it's not always correct to define x/y as x*(1/y)
Made an 85 this semester in my calculus 2 class. Feels good man, getting good grades in advanced math, I'm on my way to becoming a jew. How's your semester anon?
>>36877536
Anon, that's not what I meant, it was just an example for that instance. But, that other anon said that an integer like 5 doesn't have a reciprocal of 1/5. Am I wrong to believe that an integer x has a reciprocal of 1/x?
>>36872910
Self study is extremely important to growth as a human. The mind and body are a temple, take care of yourself and in return your efforts will be rewarded tenfold.
>>36877646
>But, that other anon said that an integer like 5 doesn't have a reciprocal of 1/5
It doesn't have one that is still an integer number
The point here is that if you use the common definition of division (z=x/y if x=yz) you can define it for integers too, but your one only works with fractional numbers
>>36877739
I didn't say it was the only way.
>>36877800
It's not a correct one though
>tfw learned algebra from the ground up with Khan
>calculus was easy and very fun for me as a consequence of that
>get into linear algebra
>everything fell apart
JUST
>why don't you learn math?
because now I have to deal with this bullshit
>>36872788
Because I fucking suck at it. Original Original.
>>36873239
Yeah, it is. I don't know why Sadiq Khan bothered with Khan Academy in the first place other than the nearly blank check that Bill Gates gave him in his partnership with Microsoft. Americans are a people of utter idiots.
