Is it that bad to be with a girl who has a child? You don't have to "raise" it or anything, it seems like it's a little less taboo if it's a girl (and not mixed race) instead of a boy. I mean, you don't always have to interact with it right? My dad is like 50 and recently divorced after 25 years, he's probably not going to find a woman that doesn't have a child.
I realize that single mothers are a lot more likely to use you for your resources than others, but if you don't let that happen what's the big deal?

Or any other sort of threat to her, she had no choice but to leave to protect herself, the child, and her dignity. I can't argue with that.
But I think early in life, at my age mid 20s, it's probably not this. It's probably her fault. She betrayed a man or was simply a lazy idiot and had a man's child she wasn't invested in.
Now I can trust her and her story, when she has every incentive to lie to me and ensnare me. Or I can not trust her.
Most men will simply not trust her. Again, she can see this perspective, show proof, and then it's not a problem. But most men are fucking terrified of single mothers, because the proof that she left a man is walking and possibly talking to you.

what if she never wants your kids? what if she DOES want your kids, but after having them decides to leave you for whatever reason she left the father of her other kids? what if the reason for her poor decision making in the past is a part of who she is as opposed to a lapse of judgement from which she has actually learned her lesson? men understand this instinctually, but it is also completely rational.
at the end of the day, if you resent or disrespect a woman, can you really be her life partner? should you?
