I like mostly the plot, cold war geopolitics and some depth. I don't like video games a lot, they require too much effort to be enjoyable.

Victoria 2. I fucking love history and sink hours into that game just to see if I can make some irrelevant shithole into a superpower. The mods are also really good. There's only a few but they all alter the game so much that it stays fresh and fun.

It's also not plagued by incessant, overpriced, and shitty dlc floods that the newer Paradox games are stuck with.

Thiiisss. Twilight Princess was fucking awesome. Felt like there was a lot to explore and it was cool being a wolf
>>
>>36860160
What do you mean? It seemed fine to me at the time. Wouldn't mind a remastered version though
>>
>>36860141

I like Twilight Princess quite a bit more than Majora's Mask, but MM has this incredible uneasiness about it that makes me like it quite a bit, while simultaneously feeling uncomfortable while playing. More uncomfortable than when I play games like Resident Evil, I mean.

On a related note, it seems like I'm the odd man out for preferring the "darker" Zelda games to the ones with brighter tones and cel shading.

I really did not much enjoy Wind Waker or Spirit Tracks. Neither the graphics, nor the gameplay. I found both very tedious, and not in a particularly fun way, and I found it difficult to get immersed, partly due to the graphics.

I would say my 5 favorite Zeldas are in no particular order MM, TP, OoT, LttP, and the original LoZ.

Despite the fact that it's bright and cutesy, I do have to admit I enjoyed SS too.
>>
Any Robots here that play /3DS/? It's without a doubt the most comfy system ever made.

Actually I bought it day 1. Dropped it at 20 hours. Don't know why everyone praises the awful characters so much. The world is fucking boring. It's too large for the amount of stuff worth doing too, but that's a problem with most open world games. Combat is fun in open areas, but shits all over itself in smaller places. Magic was a huge letdown, maybe it gets better though. The character skills are lame too. Story was alright, from what I saw. If they ever finish the game some day, I might try it again
>>
>>36860119
I've heard a lot of people say the 3-day mechanic frustrated them to hell and back, but as a programmer, I really admire it. Given the limited resources of the N64, it's really an ingenious use of the game assets and also fits perfectly into the aforementioned themes.

>>36860141
I like TP, but the dark tones in it almost felt too on the nose. Nothing bad about TP, I liked it, but in MM, you really have to pay attention to the dialogue and side quests to get the full scope of it rather than being spoon fed it through the main plot and shiny graphics.

I agree with this, during my second playthrough of MM I actually realised how dark the game was and growing up playing Oot and Crash Bandicoot I was confused and some what scared playing MM for a second time. But I'm glad I did it because now its one of my favorite games of All time.

who /Grog/ here?

When I was a kid I never understood what he meant. As I got older, it started to hit me, bit by bit.

A lot of the time when I get into a melancholy mood, I mean when I start thinking about the sheer level of wickedness, dishonesty, and cruelty in this world, I think of Grog.

Used to be Halo 2, I was obsessed with that game. It doesn't do anything for me anymore though, after thousands of hours I think I've simply exhausted the game. Not sure what my favorite now would be.

>>36859292
Dark Souls is honestly not hard at all. The only reason new players struggle is because the game does not properly explain how certain things work at the start (which is fine but the game itself is not difficult)

Answer these two questions honestly:

Do you wish FFXV had turn-based combat?

Do you regret that Versus transitioned into it?
>>
>>36860360
Halo was a great series when Bungie made it
I didn't get into halo until Halo 3 came out and when Reach came out, I fucking played Reach religiously.
Even though I thought the ranking system was fucked up in Reach, I still liked the gameplay. My muscle memory for Reach was spectacular. it got to the point where just a pistol was like my weapon of choice
>>
>>36860360
Dark Souls is harder than most games coming out anymore, that's why people say it's hard. Your first run is definitely going to challenge you too, especially if you go in blind, which you should

>>36859452
It's not a personal contender for my favorite game, but I feel you on FFXV. Very fun combat, great soundtrack, beautiful world with lots of interesting geology, simple characters who are defined by their relationship with each other as opposed to their separate histories.

Multiple weapons to allow different play styles is great, and cruising around in the regalia with the right music is absolutely comfy as hell. Magic system is disappointing, and not being able to summon whenever is also a letdown, but the general flashy, kinetic action makes up for it a bit. Leveling up character skills later on can be a hassle, though.

Overall, I spent a very entertaining 60+ hours on the game.

My favorite game series (individual titles would be too hard to pick):
>Yakuza
>Metal Gear Solid
>Dark Souls
>Final Fantasy
>Ratchet and Clank

I also like shmups and fighting games.
>>
>>36860198
>I would say my 5 favorite Zeldas are in no particular order MM, TP, OoT, LttP, and the original LoZ.
That's a pretty good list. I didn't care much for the original LoZ though. and instead of LttP, I'd say I liked Oracle of Ages more
>>
>>36860411
I like turn-based better because I feel it ages better, but I love an action rpg that gets combat right. I honestly liked the combat in FFXV. It was my favorite part of the game, outside of how they treated magic

I don't know anything about Versus, tbqh. I didn't follow FFXV that closely
>>
Rayman 3 is my all time favourite game. Everything about it just strikes perfectly with me. The art style, the character design, the combat mechanics, and most of all the music (really, the soundtrack is the best I've ever heard in a game, you're missing out if you haven't heard it), just makes me happy. I replay it every year.

>As I got older, it started to hit me, bit by bit.
there's a lot of great themes in this game I didn't really get until I was a bit older. Honestly, I think the creators were punching a bit above their weight with it, but I think that's just made it age all the better.
>>
After thinking about it for a bit this is probably my favorite game. Too bad the engine is shit and the modding community is dead because of it.

>>36860436
Reach gets shit on too hard on the internet, it was an amazing experience. I didn't like the ranking system either but the gameplay itself was top tier. There's still a small but active playerbase if you own an xbone.

>>36860437
In comparison to newer games, yeah it's more difficult than them, I can agree to that, I just think overall the difficulty is massively blown out of proportion
>>
>>36859183
FTL honestly. I know it's not got awesome graphics. But there's no story line involved. You can just jump on and do a run without having to be bothered by a ton of overthinking about built etc. Because the RNG decides that. So I don't stress about character creation.

Plus the music is comfy, no matter how many times I hear those songs I don't get tired of them. How can anyone not find this music comfy? https://youtu.be/q2H99sp4voY

I feel like we would be great friends in irl. Not being able to summon whenever you want makes complete sense. The Astrals are gods which do not answer to the whim of mortal. Noctis is not their master. They only help him under specific conditions of their own volition. Also, it would have broken the game balance. Kind of see eye to eye with you on magic though. But I like how it is treated as a destructive force that can just as easily harm you as well as your friends if you're not careful. The game is most certainly one of the most comfy I have ever played. Listening to FFXIII's "The Promise" while it's raining and you're cruising down to the next quest is an immensely satisfying feeling. Have you seen Brotherhood and Kingsglaive? And are you looking forward to Tekken 7?

I really, really like survival games. In my opinion, there's nothing more fun than getting a solid team of players together and playing a survival game, like Left 4 Dead, Halo ODST, or Call of Duty zombies. Payday 2 has this sick level where you have to survive as long as you can making meth in a house while you fight off hordes of SWAT and police.

I think my first experience with a survival game was with Star Wars The Clone Wars video game for Gamecube. It had a really awesome survival mode where you choose a jedi, and you could play co-op, and you're in this coliseum type of area and you try to survive as many waves of droids as you can.

F-Zero GX.
There is no game that I have yet played achieve all the things it set out to do and do it flawlessly.

They put so much effort into literally everything, the game has 20 tracks and on top of that AX tracks that were actually in the game's data, each track being mechanically different from each other in how you navigate through them, not just loops. The game has actual characters in it as well not just 'racers' that interchangeable with each other.

The fucking music is amazing and diverse.

1. Demon's Souls restored my faith in gaming but Dark Souls changed things up mostly for the better.

2. I love just about everything about the game.

3. I feel this game is going to stand the test of time and be remembered for a very long time to come since it innovated.

Virtually all GOAT games innovated in some way. I hold Demon's Souls and Dark Souls in very high regard and both are in my top 5 of all time for games.

By that logic Demon's Souls is better than Dark Souls. And King's Field is better than Demon's... so on and so on.

Imagine if DS3 had been your very first souls game. Would you still think this way?

Rimworld. I can make my own little society to my own liking. I get to create myself as a survivalist with a hot wife I get to fuck every night. It is a good game for me since I'm not autistic enough for dorf fort. It also has a comfy soundtrack and setting.

My track of choice while in the Regalia is actually "Fisherman's Horizon" from FFVIII (which I'm an apologist for, I'll be honest. But I recognize its weaknesses). Actually, I haven't seen Brotherhood or Kingsglaive yet; it's one of those things I planned to do in the back of my mind, but just keep forgetting. And yes, I'm very excited for Tekken 7. 3D fighters are actually my preferred type of fighters. DOA and Virtua Fighter are also my shit, but I still do enjoy Street Fighter and KOF, with a few anime fighters here and there.

I love the entire franchise (actually, I've only played the classic MM and X), but 3 has it all: great OST, sliding, some of my favorite Robot Masters, atmosphere, and it's generally just incredibly fun to play, so I can replay it over and over.

My bad. I felt dumb so I deleted my post.

I guess to paraphrase my original post.
I know it's flawed, both technically and in quality but it always keeps me coming back. It's by no means a 10/10 and perhaps that's part of the charm. The world and characters it sets up seem so dreamlike. For a game that prides itself on its visceral and gory nature, it feels very "comfy".

It's not perfect, but I enjoy thinking that it's "my" game.

No actually I haven't. But I love the fact that it's there. This is classic Shinji Mikami. He had a similar mode in Vanquish called God Hard but on a whole new level. It certainly lives up to its name. You have to be a gaming god in order to beat it. So if you haven't had a chance to play Vanquish yet I suggest you do asap. It's amazing how this one man is the unchallenged King of Third Person Shooters. Resident Evil 4? Vanquish and Evil Within all made by the same guy? The man's a genius.
>>
>>36861484
Mechanics wise, he revolutionized the genre with RE4 and then perfected it with Vanquish. I think TEW stumbled a bit in the gameplay department, but that's part of its charm. I wonder what Mikami is up to these days
>>
>>36861198
Finally someone said Warcraft 3. My favorite of all time, The Frozen Throne expansion in particular. Custom games here inspired multiple of the most popular game genres today. Good choice anon.
>>
>>36861484
I've actually played Vanquish as I'm big into 3rd person games(hence my initial interest in evil within) and it's pretty crazy. Definitely an underrated gem. Mikami is a legend. I pray he's helping with The Evil Within 2 as well.
>>
I (>>36860446) also want to show some love to Dark Souls 2.

Lots of people in here talking about 1, 3, and Demon's, which is fine, but I really think 2 is the variety and replayability king of the series. I've done more playthroughs of 2 than 1 and 3 combined.

>>36861344
Unfortunately, I don't play fighting games online due to living in the middle of nowhere and being stuck with either satellite internet (an irredeemable 1000+ ms ping) or using my smartphone's network as a wi-fi hotspot (low enough ping for some games, but definitely not for FGs).

So I mostly play fighting games for the single player content or for the sake of learning their mechanics and keeping up with FGC events. I'm pretty sad about my internet predicament, but them's the breaks.
>>
>>36861539
Not to ride Mikamis dick more, but I think he may be the best game director out there. Resident Evil 1, REmake, RE4, God Hand, Vanquish, TEW. He is incredibly consistent, and has several genre defining games under his belt. Him and Kimiya are gods
>>
>>36861576
Yea, there's no denying he has an amazing track record. Hopefully he keeps on blessing the world with his creations.

I don't think Dark Souls is very hard, not trying to sound like an mlg or something, but it is really easy once you know the pace of the game. It is just so bizarrely slow and demands an unconventional style of play that most people won't be prepared for on the first time through. But once you've completed it, it and all the other games in the series are actually quite easy.

Of the whole series, I like Dark Souls 2 the most. Replaying Demon's Souls at the moment. Started as a cleric and was staggered by how shitty faith is. So now I'm rocking the crescent falchion and pumping INT. Keeping light, skewing in favour of fire, spell wise. The atmosphere of DeS is more oppressive than any of the others and there's a lot to like. Still like DaS2 best though. Deal with it, nerds.

Xenoblade Chronicles.
The story is absolutely amazing, with dynamic and interesting characters who all have flaws that keep them from feeling like perfect characters. The plot twists are extremely hard-hitting, frequent, and are set up well, in a way that you won't notice until they are revealed. In addition, the soundtrack is phenomenal, the gameplay is engaging, it's practically the perfect game. You need to play it.

I have it
Lunar guy was mine or however he was called
need to play it again

I'm one of the few Souls fans who doesn't think DS2 is a trash game. I fact i quite like it, though not as much as 1, 3, or BB. I have fond memories of getting it for PC on release day in my freshman year of HS just after I finished the first game. The PC version came out at the beginnng of a vacation week and I spent the whole time plowing through the game and having a great time. The DLC was fantastic too, especially sunken king.

Year of the Dragon is the best one though anon.

Great choice fampai. Can never decide if I like this or Bioshock 1 better.
>>

DS2 is a 9/10 game. People is like "much Miyazaki didn't do it so it sucks."
>>
>>36863925
All fair comments. I remember the absolute hype that came with a crack at the beta of the Copse. It was great how solid the DLC was, yeah. SOTFS was for the most part a straight up improvement. DS3's DLC was a big disappointment imo.

I think issues of speed aside (because it does feel a little bit sluggish now) and the stupid adaptability stat, the combat variety and viability is at its zenith. There are a lot of problems with lore and level design, but I've played it so much I love pretty much all of it. Nothing comfier than playing it with the radio on, perhaps some vodka.

t. early 20 year olds

People will be fawning over Skyrim in the same way in the next five years. All bethesda games are trash after you grow up.
>>
>Bloodborne 2 might get announced at E3
>Worried because I've never enjoyed any Souls sequels.

DeS, DaS and BB. The other two were forgettable
>>
>>36863967
Basically this. Even though it was missing Miyazaki's distinct flare and direction in the art style and world design, the game was much better optimized, functional multiplayer, and a damn good PC port. Even if the essence and atmosphere of the first game wasn't totally there, it was still a great game that was much more technically sound than the first and even the third Dark Souls.

Imo, Ashes of Ariandel was a disappointment because of how short it was, but the level design was solid and Friede is one of my favorite bosses in the series. The Ringed City is equal to Artorias of the Abyss for me, and Slave Knight Gael might be my favorite boss fight of all time.
>>
>>36863978
>all games are trash after you grow up

fixed :)
>>
>>36863978
But Skyrim is just a shitty game senpai. Nobody will remember it with the same praise that Morrowind gets and deserves.
>>
>>36864032
Well fair enough then, glad you enjoyed it. Just left me cold. Ariandel was a pretty cool area in terms of design, however none of the bosses did it for me. Only DLC boss I really enjoyed was the Demon Prince probably. A lot of people talk up Gael. Not sure I really understood the lore?

It seemed that he just wanted to harvest loads of souls including the dark soul itself, at immense personal and spiritual cost, in order to provide paint? Then there's the theory that since the painting was made of blood that it's the BB universe?
>>
>>36864047
Sorry you're right desu
>>
>>36864077
I don't buy into the Bloodborne connection theory, but yes The Soul of Cinder was the embodiment of the Age of Fire and Gael was his foil, embodying the dark age of man. I felt like it was a very fitting conclusion to the series, the final bosses of both the base game and DLC highlighting that disparity between light and dark that has been the game's basis since the beginnng.
>>
>>36863967
DS2 was like a 6 or a 6.5/10 at best, IMO. It did a few things right, but it did a whole lot wrong as well.
The good:
>Power stancing
>Warp anywhere from the beginning
>bonfire ascetics
>lots of weapon variety
>poise is useless so you can just do fashion souls for pvp
>non-static rolling progression
>being able to keep playing after finishing the main story
>4 rings
Bad:
>All of the game's boss fights were trash with the exception of a few DLC bosses like elana, fume, and alonne. gank squad was the worst and laziest bosses in all of the souls games. The design philosophy for 90% of the fights in this game are just "make the player fight swarms of enemies instead of making one interesting enemy with good ai"
>No interconnected world
>Level design and lore is pants on head retarded, even by Dark Souls standards. Random monsters placed in completely random areas that make no sense. The gauntlet run to sir alonne is one of the worst examples of this
>On top of that, the entire game is an eyesore, filled with out of place or janky looking enemies, wtf is that falconer running animation? the non-armored gyrms literally look like warcraft 3 characters too
>No plastic bag ragdoll physics
>You can buy 99 healing items that you can use while moving for only like 20k souls, trivializing the game
>forced the bestoc into a str/quality weapon
>>
>>36860207
What are some /comfy/ 3DS games senpai? I'm still new to the system.

Probably more too. I don't get how people have one single defining game that's their favourite.

There's a few games there from different genres too.
>>
>>36861626
Gameplay wise it's pretty basic, but still enjoyable in a way.

Story wise its good, but the game never gives you a choice in things. With the white phosphorous scene, you just chill at the motor waiting or shooting enemies and the game never progresses. It gives you the illusion of choice that you never had.

Dragons Dogma. Its the best Berserk game ever and its not dragged down by a story with tons of cutscenes. Its just solid action after action. Bitterblack and the everfall are amazing, I'm sad so much was cut. Plus you can make cute goth girls.
>>
/r9k/ has great taste in vidya as expected.

Mine is Bloodborne, too. It's really sad that Reddit broke the game. Since then Mensis is pretty much dead.
Bloodborne was my first FROM game and I really liked it, so I got DS2 too. But it's really shit compared to Bloodborne and I haven't completed it yet.

Great game, I also had a huge problem with the three day limit when I was a kid, still one of my favorite zeldas, one behind orcarina of time
>>
I haven't played Dark Souls 3 but I understand all the shitting on DS2 itt.
I was kind of disappointed when DS2 came out because I was way into DS1 for a long time.
My main problem with DS2 is that the areas in the game just aren't as diverse as DS1. DS1 has everything from hell, to a metropolis/castle/city-type area, to winter castle, to dark forest, to underground tomb/cavern, to under-the-underground-cavern ocean-land, and an abyss. Whereas DS2 has like, a couple castles, a cool looking ocean, and a dragon-land in the sky.

>Plus you can make cute goth girls.

My nigga. I made one as my follower not too long ago after I had to restart the game. My loli goth mage is shaping up to be all kinds of OP just like me.

Have you beaten it before? The dragon fight and onward are the best parts for most people. If you like it now just wait
>>
>>36866965
>The game hits a certain point and actually improves
It's like the absolute opposite of a Soulsborne game
>>
>>36867098
It goes into focusing on the combat rather than point a to point b or anything like that. If you like the combat you'll love it. It also pulls together a kind of cool story at the very end
