Ever since I was a small child, I always felt like my purpose or the human purpose in general is to explore space and make huge discoveries in astronomy and astrophysics.
Now I'm 18 and ending my last year of school. Only 1 exam left, and I just want to study astrophysics but I don't know if I can pull it off or if it will be a great experience for life.

Do you ever felt something similar?

No, I never had dreams

Why do you think humanity has a purpose. What do you think will happen once we explore space? How is endless exploration a goal?

Not that we shouldn't explore and colonize space, but we shouldn't pretend its our "higher purpose"

Faster than light travel is impossible though. Exploring space is pretty pointless besides the rare metal mining we could do. Even traveling at close to the speed of light is impossible because if you hit a tiny pebble or something it would just rip right through the hull.

do it, life is too long to do something you hate.
you'd better fucking work your ass off tho if you want to be an astrophysicist

Even if you don't make it big in this field, you will have access to the most advanced material. You will learn the language of the material studied on the cutting edge of the field, which is already quite amazing.

Similar feel. I just want to explore the stars.
