You should read some Stoicism texts (I recommend something modern that sums up Marcus Aurelius, Zeno of Cetrium and Seneca), then I'd add Revolt against the Modern World and then Ride the Tiger.

3 hours for one useful idea is a pretty inefficient. I read for pleasure, but if I'm trying to solve a problem a book isn't very helpful. I'm smart but lazy so I already know a lot from what I've read. I usually have a good idea of where to start and might ask for help if I get stuck and to include a couple resources to explore the matter more fully. This is the better way to do things.General knowledge applied to specific cases is always better than specific knowledge with no context or understanding of the how.

I tried fixing my nice guy traits but it's just more trouble than it's worth, I was raised christian and it goes deep. I may never be a machiavellian prince but I can at least safeguard myself from manipulation and that's enough for me. You have to compare the costs to the returns. The time it takes to make me a not nice guy could be spent much better elsewhere. Personality is largely unchangeable.
