>tfw at uni with 30
>>
>>36767329
Starting community college this year at 22, will be 27 when I get my masters...
>>
>>36767329
with 30 what?
>>
>>36767411
I'm 27 and failing my second year. I hope I die soon
>>
>>36767329
Lads is it too late to apply for a CS degree this year. Why the fuck are the deadlines so early.
>>
>>36767329
Did she died originally
>>
I'm 29 and failed out of my 2nd year. Although my psychologist is insisting on giving me some free-pass shit that i can give to my uni on behalf of her that will get me back in. But I told him I'm retarded enough.
>>
>>36767590
Getting back into to Uni is easy though.
Just have to write a convincing letter to the dead saying how you were depressed or something but now you have sorted things out and want to continue your education.
They will usually let you back in.
>>
Age doesn't matter that much, anon. Don't give up.
>>
>>36767587
No, she was wearing a helmet.
>>
>>36767615
>write a convincing letter to the dead
Not even the dead can know peace from this evil huh.

>tfw one course left to finish degree

My self-esteem is a black hole.
>>
>tfw Wondering if I should go back to school for a PhD
>>
>>36768308

if you can afford it & can get a paid position I don't see why you wouldn't.

u wanna get to old age and someone says "oh u coulda got a phd why didn't you"

"oh uh cos im a beta cuck"
>>
>>36768395
I was actually offered full paid tuition for a PhD but turned it down cause I was tired of school and hated the school.
>>
>>36768308
>>36768752
Give details man.
What degree, school, shit liek that

Computer Science
It was just a pretty bad public university
>>
>>36768882
>Computer Science
Peeked my interest nigga.
Im 26 navy vet gonna be starting school in the fall for this. CAn you give any info at all about it.
I hear half the time its awesome and half the time its a meme.
>>
>>36768853

you are doing it correctly

once you gain experience you can do a business studies course at a community college and have your own trucking company
>>
>>36768917
It can be pretty interesting and fun at times, at least for me. It is such a huge field with many topics to go through. Just be prepared to always be learning, you won't learn everything you need to be a software developer and it is expected you can learn new tools by yourself. So be sure to learn fundamentals and how things work.
>>
>>36768917
it's soulless

half of it is math stuff that you realize you will never be able to contribute to without being a genius. you will only be able to regurgitate what people with 50 IQ points over you came up with

so that leaves you the second half. the second half is nothing but learning the endless frameworks, languages, patterns, methodologies and ideologies that people spend their entire waking life on because otherwise they won't be able to outperform the fucker who maintains 50 major open source projects has 100,000 accepted replies racked up on stackoverflow and maintains a blog where he talks about why a certain design pattern or framework is going out of fashion along with a 5 hour tutorial on what you should learn next

I genuinely cannot understand the kind of person who enjoys this.

my advice to people who want to get into computer science or software development or """coding""" is just be a freelance writer or some shit or kill yourself because both are better options than living that life
>>
>>36769058
Thats pretty vague but appreciated.
You got a job lined up?
How much salary?
Did you know a lot before school?
>>36769071
woah dude.
>>
>>36768853
I have been wondering for a while now, is that job even worth it?
>>
>>36769034
Even then I think I'd rather self-study by reading a few books & using google. I've tried community college once and didn't really learn practical skills. It was all just expensive test-taking.

>>36769119
Haven't done trucking yet, but pizza delivery is pretty good. Just make sure you find a busy store to work at otherwise you'll spend a lot of time doing in-store work for shit pay.
>>
>>36769096
>You got a job lined up?
Yeah, I am working right now
>How much salary?
$55k, not the best but it something
>Did you know a lot before school?
I was alright with computers and did a bit of web design in high school. I never had trouble learning any of the programming languages, but plenty of people did.
>>
>>36769119
i worked delivering amazon packages and it wasnt bad, but you get to hop out of the van every 3 minutes. sitting on your ass trucking all day might be hard on your body
>>
>>36768293
are you me?
>one class left
>zero fucking drive to do anything
>dropped out last week
>>

why not just do the one course?

>self driving truck replaces you
>only thing you have on your resume is a skill that is completely automated now
>200k in debt thanks to your mortgage
Sounds good for a couple years but I hope you're planning for the long term.
>>
I filled out my tuition assistance application for work but I don't know what I actually want to study at CC...
>>
>>36769308
>he thinks a self driving truck is going to replace human long-haul truck drivers in 3-4 years
>he thinks a self driving truck is smart enough to handle unmapped detours, hazardous weather, construction, unexpected events, etc
Not even the AI in video games can drive correctly let alone in the real world.

also
>implying I'd ever buy a home that expensive
I'm a single man. I don't need a lot.
>>
>>36769308
ya i also doubt the self driving truck thing will happen

it's sad though knowing the real solution is just not transporting massive amounts of mostly useless things around and organizing smaller human communities
>>
>>36769676
>>36769926
Are you aware that self-driving trucks are already in service?
>>
>>36770087
Are you aware that they only work on highways during ideal weather conditions and still require a drivers input?
>>
>>36769308

He probably has a good ten to fifteen years of truck driving still.

Stage 1: human drivers
Stage 2: 3-5 years from now: Human drivers + AI copilot new build trucks replace vehicle stock. 15-20 year turnover process.
Stage 3: 10 years from now. AI only trucks are inserted into fleets to replace copilot and regular truck stock. 15 year process.

It takes awhile for new build trucks to ramp up production and displace old vehicle stock that gets retired.
>>
Also speaking of automation... why don't we have self-flying commercial planes yet? That should be even easier to automate than driving.
>>
>>36770144
>planes already fly themselves
>planes already land themselves
soon
>>
>>36770161
i think they sort of do, thats why that pilot got caught hammered flying the plane because you do nothing basically
>>

Progress is still progress man. Better than 30 with a dead end job you hate. Good luck mate
>>
>>36769236
If youre still hear can you say a little more.
Cause what you said goes against everything ive heard. Most people who talk about CS say you better know a lot before trying it cause you cant learn it in school or some bullshit like that.

Same here, but I hate the trucker lifestyle even if I make a lot money.
Im not doing this shit for the rest of my life, which is why I went back to college.
>>
I'm going back to school at 30.

Oh, well.
>>
>>36769071
This is true, but it also holds true for nearly all fields, especially anything STEM related.
Everything you get taught in a STEM major and all the guidelines of design were set in place by someone who was much, much more intelligent than you-- who most likely spent their entire lives figuring it out. Not everyone going into one of the fields is going to innovate or revolutionize it. Probably not even the top 1%.
The trick is taking those skills that many have also acquired, and beating them to the punch of making something new that prints money.

Honestly though, when I was 18 at college, I couldn't tell who was 18, 22, 24, 28 etc
>>
>>36768293
Holy shit anon. I dropped out after the second year, went nights while married, kids and traveling for work and got my degree at 40. Do it now while you're young and unattached because it's a bitch later in life.

tfw 34 years old, two-times drop-out. Working. Spending most of my free time talking to a promising girl. Whenever I try to study, I sperg and drop out. Now I can't see a possibility of having the time to do so, the ability to focus and learn something new, the strength to go to every class and do tasks and talk to people. And ivest this time and possibly money for so many years. And I need this, because who knows if my job will last forever or what possibilities lies ahead of me. Fuck my life.
>>
>>36771521
In CS you need to be able to learn quick. Some people can easily pick up programming with no effort and others it almost impossible. The only programming I did before University was from a visual basic book which made me hate it and basically quit trying to learn program. My first language in school was C++ and had no issue, even when they started covering pointers and they said most won't understand it.

>>36773496
Ok so 2 questions.
Is it important at all to know anything beforehand going in or can you learn on the fly there if youre a quick learner?
And second were most people having problems because its actually tough or are they just stupid?
I only ask cause id say im smarter than the average bear so i think i learn pretty quickly especially stuff relating to math. Got a 720 on math SAT if that means anything.
>>
>>36773712
I don't think so

I am not sure, some people are pretty dumb. There is some people who need to be handholded through everything and some who just can't even process what they are learning. Some professors are also just terrible at teaching. If you get a decent professor, you should be able to learn from lectures but if it bad, prepare to learn on your own.
>>
>>36773848
Makes sense gotcha
>>
>>36773578
But if he knows we're robots then why is he giving advice like he's giving it to a fellow norman?

"hurrdurr better take care of college now before you have a wife & kids to think about"
>implying that will ever happen
>>
>>36773578
That, plus it's a fun place sometimes.

But you can take or leave my advice friendo.
>>
>never went to college cuz had to work to support ex-con mom
>32 now
should i go? i took the placement exam way back when and was like top 99% for math
>>
>>36775617
why not. its a meme that you have to go at 18. sure it might be easier to fit in and all that shit but this shouldn't railroad your life.
>>
>>36767329

For me it was much better. I couldn't talk to girls until 25. At 30 I had them knocking at my door.
