Bullshit. New Wave was commercialized pap from the American labels in the UK. 4AD came along and changed *everything*. When the Cocteau Twins hit and beat the major labels like they were owed money the US tried to come up with a response.
Fucking Grunge shit - commercialized moaning.
But the Goth scene was still cranking out amazing music with actual singing.
And the Goth scene allowed us to not only make a statement but to recognize each other, to know who we could 'reveal out power level' to.
