Different people have (and always will have) different interpretations of what the word "gay" means (sexuality is a subjective).
The differences between interpretations are subtle, but enough to be referring to different ideas.

Arguing over the association of words to concepts, such as, "does this mean I'm 'gay'?" or "am I still a 'robot' even though I did xyz" is completely fucking pointless.

It is impossible for a society to agree upon a concrete reference to a subjective concept.

imo, femininity is really all that matters.
if I literally couldn't tell the difference between whether someone was a male or female (other than their genitalia) -- then biological gender doesn't matter to me
however, I have seen VERY FEW (almost exclusively anime) biological males that I would consider passable
