The idea extends far beyond "oh the author can't explain the meaning of a text", which is factually untrue by the way, because the text is a substitute for the concepts it is trying to convey. Death of the Author states that the text exists independent of its creation, with all that this implies. It decontextualizes the text in the most radical and in opinion meaningless way.

If you do not see the issues with this idea, you shouldn't be concerning yourself with literary criticism.

This includes things such as the time and place of creation. The entire point of literary criticism is contextualizing a text. If you throw the "author" out of the window, where is there left to contextualize? What is there left to address? What do you want to talk about?
It just devolves into self-gratifying masturbation that doesn't hold a claim of relevance.
