You should check out the stories of some of the people who get scammed by Nigerians.

I've read about cases where someone has paid like $100,000 to some Nigerian scammer over 10 years, and gotten nothing in return (obviously) -- and then absolute proof emerges that the Nigerian is a scammer -- but the "victim" still believes that the scammer will deliver on his promise some day.

I've seen actual video interviews of the "victims", and they're so pathetic it's mind-blowing. For example, the interviewer will lay out the air-tight case that the Nigerian is a scammer, and even gets the "victim" to agree that all the facts are true. Then the camera will focus up-close on his face, looking really sad, and he says "yeah, I guess it's possible it could be a scam", and then 10 seconds later he'll say that he still has faith that the scammer was acting with good faith and he still trusts him to deliver on his promise.
