On the other hand, virtually any word you use to refer to undesirables will eventually become a slur simply by being associated with the group it's being used to describe. Consider the long line of terms used to describe blacks: nigger wasn't initially used as a slur. Neither was negro or colored. Even "black" is taken as a slur by some people these days. It's not because these words were initially intended to be slurs, it's just that the people these words describe are so distasteful to society as a whole that they naturally become slurs over time.
