It's not only a terrible excuse for bad movies but it's a harmful position towards quality films.
It basically says"Don't worry about making a bad movie, I'll just lower my standards until it's considered good."
If a movie has so many flaws that the only way to consider it good is to avoid thinking about it in any way, it is a bad film.

This isn't even about being "intellectually stimulating". This is about people excusing movies with shitty dialogue, plot holes or terrible acting with the argument that as long as you "turn off your brain" and just veg out while passively inhaling media like a fucking whale, it's okay.
