Just take yourself and the mirror out of the question altogether. It's obvious that cameras can lie. Do photographs always capture others exactly as they are? Are shitty photos of attractive people not an incredibly common thing?

"Cameras don't flip the image so they're perfect!!!11!" is an oversimplification that ignores the fact that cameras have their shortcomings as well.
