I'll admit I was scare shitless. I had no money saved and less than 1,000 in my checking account. But I found some people on Craigslist that help me out. I say at least save 6-7,000 dollars with no debt and a car payed off and you can go anywhere and find a place to live and a job. It's not easy but possible.

Sure if you get lucky and are willing to live on the street/car for a awhile. Average rent in NYC is 1.5-2k a month for a studio. You can probably live in niggertown for 500 or so if you are willing to stomp rats.

Honestly OP as someone who's moved to a few cities I can tell you that they are all honestly pretty much the same. Sure some love sports and some love hotdogs, but it's more or less the same for some computer worshipping faggot. Try moving to a medium sized college town. You can get your own room for cheap, really easily thanks to most college kids being bleeding hearts, there's plenty of low tier work to cater to the spoiled faggots, and when you get some money under your belt rent farther away from campus tends to be pretty reasonably priced.

I moved to Toronto. Not quite NYC or LA tier but you get the genuine big city experience; something to do every day regardless of your interests and all that.

I work online so I have a lot of flexibility to live anywhere. I could probably afford to live in the outer boroughs of NYC but definitely not Manhattan. Manhattan is $3500 rent territory unless you're willing to live in a closet.

I'd consider moving to NYC but being Canadian I'd need to immigrate and I doubt I'd be approved because I have no legitimate reason to be there.

Your best bet would be to live in a satellite city somewhere on the fringe of where ever you plan on moving to. If you're lucky rents will be decent and you can just work and "play" in the big city. If you're unlucky then thousands of millenials have had the same idea as you and have gentrified that satellite city, jacking up the rent and making it just as difficult to get a foothold in as the city.

When the hell did your family move in, 1939? The cheapest I've ever heard rent controlled apartments going for is $200 a month. Not to mention the landlord will do everything short of dumping your body in the Hudson (or in some cases even that) to get the full market value on a place like that.

Which city did you live in to make you conclude this?

I am planning on moving to Seattle in June to live with my best friend from college and maybe one or two other roommates. Its going to be expensive but I have a good amount of savings and not much to lose. The only way i can really advance my career is by moving to the city, and all my friends left in my home town are drunk losers and burnt out former druggies. Its pissing away so much more money on rent, but I'm 27 now and figure I will try it out for a year or two. I want to get laid as much as possible while Im not too old and I figure I have a better chance in the city.
