We're treated well by the family, it's the senior staff who are hard on us. I know it can be not as great with large numbers of staff, then it's more impersonal. In my case though, our staff is pretty small so things are close between us and the family. I definitely like them and wouldn't mind at all working for them for even decades more. I do envy them though, how could anyone not? It's just a nice part of the job that we also get to experience it in a way.

And yes we definitely hear about things and gossip, even from extended family and friends. Naturally we have the sense to keep quiet about it, and you end up seeing or hearing about things you shouldn't, or have to keep secrets about things that you'll take to your grave.
