>tfw existence revolves around death
>tfw all forms of religion were created because the concept of utter nothing upon death is too terrifying to comprehend so people delude themselves with lies
>tfw literally nothing matters as everything you have done or ever will do will eventually be forgotten

I believe we either die and that's it, which is terrifying.
Or we die and are reincarnated, which is more terrifying. If it's the case, I'll have to suffer all the worst things imaginable as well as witness the end of the human race.

An afterlife can neither be proven not disproven. The logical course is to admit you don't know. materialism is narrative that assumes the absence of evidence is the evidence of absence.
>>
I have never understood why people are afraid of nothingness. Dreamless sleep is one of the very few places I can actually find comfort and I would actually prefer it over an afterlife. Of course because of infinite probability we may very well just keep getting shit out into different universes forever with no escape which is on par with hell to me.

Hi. I'm a Spartan soldier who bled to death on a battlefield during what you call the Peloponnesian War about 2,400 years ago. I was 22 years old when I died, I spend a good 36 hours in utter agony before dying, and that's not counting the toothache I'd had since I was 16. I was not literate and so I'd never read a book in my life, even if books had been available to me. I wasn't married and didn't have children when I died, in fact my parents had died years before me. I'm glad to know that your existence has been affected by...

Oh wait, my life has had such negligible influence on you, that even passive bodies in space probably have a greater overall influence on your life.

I just honestly don't give a fuck, it's the only shot we get so I enjoy it and don't want to die, but once I am dead I won't know it so who gives a fuck. Anything that comes after my death is the most irrelevant part of my life, not the most relevant, everyone here seems to get them two the wrong way round
>>
>>36589942
Peloponnesian war had an impact on Europe today, retard
>>
>>36589611
True but the fact that you think you ought to post about this implies you think it's an even slightly original thought, which is disgustingly egoistical of you and downright cringy. Wow humans are afraid of oblivion and make methods to cope with it, who'd a thunk it.

>>
>>36590127

I said "my life", that is - as an individual there was barely any real influence.
>>
>>36590163
Great events are made of individuals and their actions. Wouldn't have been a war and its impacts without lots of Spartan youths dying without much glory on a battlefield
>>
>receive serious injury when younger

>assume this is why all those people with near death experiences say they see heaven

>become transhumanist, use science and technology to turn current universe into "heaven" and resurrect dead people

>>36590221

Hi, I'm a 20 year old who jumped to his death in 2013. I jumped to my death from the Apple iPhone factory I work at. I'm very glad to know that I've influenced history by creating such a great prod...

You get the idea.
>>
>>36590372
I get what you're saying but humans are so interconnected; an individual's actions can have huge consequences. But yeah alright, the guy in that example is insignificant
>>
>>36590399
As are the vast majority of people.
>>
>>36590399

But when are a man's choices or actions actually significant and to what degree to they really influence other people? It's sortof a contradictory position you're pushing too... if a Spartan soldier 2,400+ years ago had long-range influences on human history, so did literally every other person alive then...and this in a way cancels out the significance of that 'influence', and the 'influence' you're talking about seems to be only very 'neutral' in value - it's "I affected this outcome by being part of a huge group", but most people think of meaningful influence as having some sort of 'control' or direct mastery, or some sort of positive ongoing influence that comes from their individuality.

I don't think there's much hope in that. We're all pretty insignificant when it comes to 'world history', even powerful, influential people like Trump are basically just caught up in things - I doubt Trump as a man sits alone contemplating his choices and then puts them into action directly himself. He's just pushed along by other forces...and even if he DID somehow directly influence things himself 'consciously'... everything is going to be burnt up.
>>
>>36589611

You know what son.

Those that are relgious have supernatural things called miracle's happen to them on a regular basis.
The athiest community doesn't experience these things because they lack the catalyst in tapping into this phenomenon. This catalyst is called having faith.

You can quantify faith. You cant measure faith. You cant take a picture of faith because when it happens, it happens way faster than any camera aperture in the world could capture.

If you want you're gay ass shitty life to change, I'd start believing into those "lies" and start having some faith.

Or kys.
>>
>>36590460
Every single human has influence. Either they are part of events or cultural changes, or they are individuals like Alexander the Great who exert their will. But even the great individuals are products of cultures and events, which are made of ordinary humans. You speak of "things" as if they were independent of us; they're not, they're the actions of humans on a larger than individual scale, which is itself composed of individuals
>>
>>36590540
Once you start having "faith" everything that happens in your life is a miracle. From catching that glass falling off the counter to waking up on time when your alarm clock fails to go off.

Every injury you get will be a miracle that the injury wasn't worse. When you go to the doctor about that mole on your arm, it's a miracle it wasn't cancer.

I had to live with family like that. Never again. I cut them all off. They probably see that as a miracle too.
>>
I subscribe to the Poincare Recurrence Time idea, personally. Reincarnation is real, but it takes a truly unfathomably long time to get back there.
>>
>>36589611
The sun is a ticking bomb that will explode in billions of years

But a nuclear Holocaust is a menace since the inception with project Manhattan
>>
>tfw you have had an obe and know there is an after life
>>
>>36590597
No, what you just described is a stupid's interpretation of having faith.

I practice Luciferian Christianity which i made up. One that values science and knowledge over that hocus pocus faggy nonsense part of Christianity. A miracle to me is getting hit by a car and not feeling an ounce of pain, or being in a tight spot and miraculously what i need come's my way at a close proximity of time.

Perhaps i'm altering the information/ context based universe using my consciousness to will into fruition through relativity and the law of attraction what i need or want. Or maybe its God throwing me a bone. Whatever it is, i dont fucking know.
>>
If you're still here, OP, you'd enjoy Ernest Becker's writing, one of his major ideas is that practically everything human beings do is about distraction from the reality of death, "The Denial of Death" is one of the major books on this.

That said, I believe in a coming resurrection of the dead. I believe that we all live our lives out, die, and then comes the resurrection.
>>
>>36590682
Your religion sounds pretty retarded desu.
>A miracle to me is getting hit by a car and not feeling an ounce of pain
It's called adrenaline.
>being in a tight spot and miraculously what i need come's my way at a close proximity of time
Next time Tyrone is fucking you up the ass and you find some lube on the drawer, will you consider that a miracle?
>>
>>36590747
You're foregoing the notion of getting hit by a car and actually dying. You braindead reactionary contrarian.
>>
>>36590805

There's literally mathamatical equations that signify a creators existence of some sorts. Everything about the universe is fine tuned to a degree that indicates there's an architect beyond anyone's comprehension. But keep pretending you like science.

>>36591071
>being this autistic

>>36591083
Miracles happen everyday. Experiencing life through a cynical reality tunnel will only dissuade you from realizing that kiddo.
>>
>>36591200
Why doesnt this almighty create sprinkle some miracle dust over kids with cancer? Or perhaps the people being crushed by buildings during earthquakes?

Seems to me religious people view everything positive in life as a miracle while dismissing everything negative as "gods plan" or some other bullshit. I actually kinda envy you knowing that you'll die thinking that there's at afterlife. At the same time though it's time to grow up and stop believeing in magic
>>
>everyone is terrified of death

This is the worst one tbqh. We are all hopeless, everything is hopeless. I hate the fact that i was born into this absurd existance. I wish i was a fucking tree or something
>>
>>36591270
Whose to say the kids didn't die because of the incompetence of the doctors that were giving them treatment? Doctors literally use google to make diagnosis's these days.
>>
>>36590082
Oh, you'll give a fuck. Believe you me, when the time comes you'll give a fuck.
>>
>>36591436
>missing the point entirely

Why would children even have cancer in the first place? Theyre too young to have committed a crime or be a morally bad person.

It's because karma does not exist. There's been good people that have died in agony and suffered their entire lives and despicable people that have lived great, fufilled lives. You dont get to cherry pick what's a miracle and what is just 'bad luck'. Miracles don't exist. People are finding meaning where there is none because it causes comfort. There are thousands of white lies everyone tells themself in a world full of horrible truths.
>>
>>36590561
Anon it's like a snowball rolling down a hill. The absence of one snowflake, pun not intended, is not gonna change it's trayectory. Humanity is just one big snowball rolling downhill carried along by it's own momentum. There's no meaning to our own existance except the one we chose to find
