Anyway, my hypothesis is that there are 2 main reasons as to why guys want a "mentally ill" girlfriend.

1) Because they want to feel like they're their gf's guardian/protector of sorts, perhaps this would make them feel more important or special than if they were "protecting" a "mentally sound" girl.

2) Because, for whatever reason, they feel as if they would relate with a mentally ill person better than they would with a "normal" person.

Now, I'm not exactly against the idea of dating a mentally ill individual, however I feel as if the "good times" would not make the "bad times" worth going through. Of course, this would vary depending on the mental illness.

Came here to say this. You're in the right place at least, OP. That being said, and I don't say this to be preachy but so you can better prepare yourself if you do find someone: don't overly romanticize the idea of dating a mentally ill girl. There are going to be times where it gets really stressful to deal with, and having an idealized version of what she'll be ahead of time will only make that stress worse.

Where normal girls will use you mentally and physically, mentally ill girls will do this but 100 times worse. They will make you question your life and own sanity by the shit they pull.

I've put my family and relationships through so many hurdles to where I'd rather be alone at this point.

Dating a mentally ill person is one of the worst things to do. You might feel like you are "saving" them or you're there to comfort them and you think you'll enjoy the feeling of being relied on but it's nothing like that at all. I've dated a bipolar girl before and they basically just get mad at you and want to break up with you over literally nothing all the time. It's not something you can just go "oh babe, it's ok, i'm here for you to ride this thing out" because she's irrationally angry, as you would be with a fucking brain problem. She will consistently fuck up your shit, both physically and mentally.

Oh you want a girl who requires attention and is insecure? Those are the girls who are most likely to cheat on you because of that need for attention. Contrary to what /r9k/ says, the independent women are less likely to cheat because they feel confident in their relationship with you. If they want to fuck someone else, they'll just cleanly break up with you. Because cheating doesn't work like it does in porn, you don't cheat because you thought someone was just really hot and you get off on the idea of some dude with a bigger dick or a chick with a bigger rack. 90% of people cheat with someone they are close to and insecure girls latch onto everyone like robots latch onto any girl who is nice to them.

Physically disabled chick? Sure, that's fine. Mental disability is never great for anyone. You're better off just being a friend who helps her come over that disability first through therapy and whatever and having her start to date you when she's more stable.

She would fill the list with my answers and just that. It's a pretty useless thing, there is nothing that can treat it and a diagnosis doesn't change anything, it's like a trivia about my mind if you will.The only things that it bring up its a discussion on the diagnosi's precision, the origin of ASPD(nature or nurture).

The only shocking thing about the question for me was that I never thought about my personality, it still feels just like any other tool I use to control people and situations.

The worst one was when I was about to ask my high school crush to the prom, and I froze up after saying no more than a simple "hey". We never spoke much, but neither of us were especially popular, and we shared quite a few interests, so I thought that I might as well give it a shot.
