Music thread, post any music you wrote/performed. Hell, just post any music you like really.
I'm trying to learn composition/writing.

I've been trying to make this big, spacey, scale-changing instrumental the last few days. It's got nylon guitar, electric guitar, and virtual strings. I'll probably add some bass and 12-string acoustic to it later on. Shit's hard as fuck to mix, but I like where the composition is going so far. I still need an intro for it and a 2nd part to transition into

Simple stuff, but nice. I like the slightly unusual chord changes in 13, feels kind of dreamlike
>tfw can only read guitar tabs
https://soundcloud.com/the_zoroastrian/expressions-of-the-morally-conflicted This is the start of my experimental phase in music. Currently I'm working on a piece with my band that transitions from 21/8 to 15/8 with a 12/8 turnaround into 4/4 time. Basically I'm into a phase where I wank all over time signatures. There's a part in another song that goes back and forth from 7/8 to 4/4 and a part in 18/8 that's broken down into 2 measures of 5/8 and a measure of 4/4. I like to write music that's both unsingable and undanceable to.

Man, I thought you were saying the link you posted was the time sig fuckery one, I listened to the whole thing waiting for it to shift out of 4/4. Anyway I liked it, it's a fun jam with some nice leads
I fuck with odd time every now and then. Here's an ugly sounding guitar instrumental that starts in 21/16 then keeps it going with a polymeter over 4/4, Meshuggah style:

My mistake, I maybe could have been more clear. Your instrumental sounds very dream theater esque and that's pretty sweet. Yeah, I was unfamiliar with odd timing when I wrote that 5 months ago but now that I'm in a progressive experimental band I've been introduced to a whole new level of weird.
I think this song fits /r9k/ pretty well.

This is the song I'm currently working on learning on guitar/bass.

NOTES!!! I've got notes for everybody!!!
>>36561424
great feel, clever little tunes but you're in a bit of a box. Do you quantize or just good timing?
>>36561808
I love this. Only problem is that the guitar sounds too organic on top of the digital instruments, but you knew that already
>>36562336
Inventive with potential. Excellent for a demo but the drumming must be tighter (I can tell you were just trying to give it a go and could probably blow it up with more work) Eerily listenable
>>36562573
Tell me everything. How did you record this? Is this you? Your band? 10/10
>>36561424
Working on far better material and taking time to propels produce soon. If you like minimalism and sound experimentation similar to post-rock you might like this demo though.

What makes it eerily listenable if I may ask? Also that was probably only my 5th time behind a drum set ever so I definitely have room for improvement. I have no plan to release that song in the future, at least not yet. If I did plan to release it I have about 3 or 4 drummer friends who would gladly drum for me..

>What makes it eerily listenable if I may ask?
the fact that I listened to it
not being a smartass, but if you can kinda listen to something on the backburner without getting bored or irritated, that usually means you got something. Kinda a swampy darkness

Thanks man. I do it all myself. I have a 6505+ with a Mesa 4x12 and I record with an SM57 microphone. Bass is tracked DI, and the drums are samples arranged in midi. Check out my Soundcloud if you like that - most of what I do is a lot more melodic but I try to keep up that prog vibe:

At my peak in high school orchestra, I was able to play the solo part to this song. I never had lessons either, relying on music classes in middle school and high school.

I haven't touched a violin in 8 years.

That's a fair point. Honestly being in a band with actual musicians now has broadened my horizons pretty well. I was in a punk band and it was boring as fuck so I channelled all my creative juices into soundcloud. Now all my creative juices go into the band and our writing processes. I like to go for that elevator music vibe. Backburner music is exactly how I write my music.
If you ever write something for band, I'm sure there are plenty of robots that could record themselves playing each part.
It would be a neat project for /r9k/. I've got the 1st trombone part covered!

I always feel talentless compared to people out there learning real instruments, polyrhythms, cool different stuff, etc. Here's my efforts through a bit of traditional musical education and mostly self taught knowledge

Damn son, that's some good mixing
>>36563132
>I was in a punk band and it was boring as fuck
haha, me too. Someday you'll miss it (or maybe I just miss the drugs and hijinks)
>>36563104
phew! I was wondering how you got such a clean drum sound. The guitar is ridiculously clean as well, but I thought you had Matt Halpern on back or something. You've got the product, now you gotta market better.
>>36563119
great drumming, needs to be cleaner
>>36562897
a bit hard on yourself. You're trained, obviously. Get with a producer to fill in the gaps
>>36563219
this made me want to bitch out Togusa for using a revolver. Really solid (beat a little loud, even for dnb)
hope I didn't miss anyone, not a bad apple in the bunch, /r9k/ has more talent than I could imagine but to make something stick you need an image and connections, that's like the most important part (if ya'll are ugly just commission an avatar, have that be your face like Gorillaz)
clockin' out!
