WoW circa 2005-2006 is my "chasing the dragon" gaming moment.

The first gryphon ride, the first mount, walking into Iron Forge as gnome and being completely shocked at how awesome it was. The first time seeing Onyxia. Even questing through Hellfire Peninsula and Zangarmarsh when BC came out with all the other Draenei/Blood Elves.

Good times man, good times. No video game has given me that same experience since, not even the current abomination and "daily chore list" that is the current WoW.

I miss the old feel of WoW. I want to ride around Durotar on my wolf again and call down thunder on the Alliance. You can never get those moments back anon, if you re-sub you'll only be depressed at the state of the game. Except for Org and Stormwind the cities are abandoned, nobody talks to each other, levelling/questing/dungeons are all stupid easy and require no effort. The community is flooded with Spanish speakers who scream throughout the entire dungeon, roll Need on everything, then quit midway through when someone dies.

The mechanics of the game are undoubtedly better, but the challenge factor is simply not what it was. Gold inflation is insane, 100g was a pretty good chunk of money, and 1000g was a fuck ton.
Now 10,000g is not very much.
Dungeon and group finder is an awesome quality of life thing, but it removed an aspect of challenge from the game. Getting a 5 man group was hard in vanilla, now it takes like 5 seconds if you're not a dps
Overall it's just simplified and easier which is both good and bad.

Yea the quests felt so boring, I played through maybe 85-87 in a free trial and got sick of doing the same quests over and over.

The fall of WoW was when they rushed/completely fucked over the lore aspects and took away the unique parts of the game such as class quests, attunements, long lore-based storylines, etc. Burning Crusade was the only decent expansion, except they should have stopped adding dumb stats like resilience. I enjoyed casually pvping every once in a while in my regular gear without needing +resil on every fucking thing.

I don't play Hunter so correct me if there's something wrong with the idea but it seems like it'd be cool for them to revamp BM into a tank spec where their abilities are based around redirecting threat to their pet and helping their pet tank

They don't need pet gear just balance the pets so if you don't know how to play the game your pet will suck and if you do your pet will be a good tank instead of just letting people hide behind gear and ilvls like they do now

I quit back in Wotlk and came back in legion. Overall feels solid. Its main problem is in the RNG of legendary drops but apart from that the game is great and is an improvement to me.

Lots of people slate the new expacs but I don't see why. When I played tbc and wotlk I remember class balance was horrendous for both PvP and PvE. Legion feels reasonably balanced.

I quit after Cataclysm. I found that extension so fucking bad and the last straw was when they introduced kung fu panda in the lore. Fuck nu-blizzard.

Quit playing WoW because it's long since left it's golden age and is receding into irrelevance.

I started playing Elder Scrolls Online to fill the void but it just doesn't do the trick. I'm enjoying it but it feels like they got every essential element of an MMO wrong. Grinding/Farming isn't at all satisfying as the game lacks any big goals to justify all the work needed, the only exception being the crafting skills which really pay off if you invest time in them. It's probably the least social MMO I've ever played, there's no reason to play with other people outside of dungeons. There's only been like, 1 quest so far that I've played that required me to group up with other players to finish it, and it was a short "go here and kill this boss" quest. I like the idea of cooking shit to give you buffs, it reminds me a lot of monster hunter and even though I never really find myself using said buffs all too often it's a cool feature to have.

I think I'm gonna try FF14 sooner or later.
