>tfw old enough that I not only grew up without cell phones, I grew up without the internet
I feel sorry for everyone under 30 who grow up with an ethernet cable plugged into them as soon as their umbilical cord was cut.
really makes you think

Gen X get ooooout RRREEEEE
>when the newer gens are more dependent on second hand experience than any before

>Gen X
I'm technically a millenial though.
>>36454689
more like third or fourth hand at this point
>>36454698
what makes you think that?
I have the internet and magical cell phones now, and it's great.
As a kid I didn't have to worry about doing something embarrassing at school or even at home and having hundreds of schoolmates or my own parents recording it and uploading it for the world to see, amongst other things.

I'm a little younger than you, but I still feel the same way. We didn't have a computer until I was 10, and even then, the 00's were completely different.
Am I officially getting too old to hang out on 4chan?

>tfw remember only being allowed 30 mins of internet a day because dial up was too expensive
>>36454983
We went from nothing straight to DSL, before that I would get a few minutes of internet at rich kids' houses or at school & the local library but those were always reserved days ahead.
One of the first things my brother did was take dick pics for girls(?) that lived across the country.

>My buddy Doug was only allowed 1 hour of game time every couple of days
>It took him two years to beat Final Fantasy VII
>Whenever he would spend the night his mom would give my parents a big rundown of what he was and wasn't allowed to do, and for how long.
>As soon as she left, they'd let us eat junkfood and play GTA all night.
I miss you Doug, I wish you'd never moved away in sixth grade. I bet we'd still be friends to this day, you awkward son of a bitch.

>tfw you think every day about how social media and smartphones have fucked up society and you wish you grew up in an age where authenticity still existed
I'm generation Z and the internet completely fucked me up from a young age.
>>36454558
lol what I'm 33 and I had vidya since I was 4 years old and the internet since I was like 10. Sure it was shit internet but I could still get porn off BBS and usenet which was the most important aspect
>>36455226
it's completely different now from how it was then
>>36455260
All nostalgia aside, I really don't like the direction society took from that springboard.
I miss things like Blockbuster and early "world wide web". I wish we could have it both ways, but we can't. Things have to be streamlined for the majority of people. You can't have anything be "niche" and "successful".
1990 here
I grew up playing a little sega and N64 but my best memories are riding my bike around the neighborhood, playing backyard football and street hockey, and just getting in trouble ding-dong-ditching and shitting on people's porches
I feel bad for the young anons on here who's best memories are fucking World of Warcraft LMAO
>when the height of social media was picking your msn username

>lol what I'm 33 and I had vidya since I was 4 years old and the internet since I was like 10
Congrats on being one of like 10 thousand people who had the internet in the 90s
