They appear connected. Of course anyone who thinks they're the other sex/gender disassociates from their sex/gender, so by definition they suffer from disassociation.

From there I think it's just a choice of whether the person decides to latch onto an identity or not.

There's 3 options I can see:
1. They identify with a different personality of their same gender/sex and become different by their behaviour or thinking or dress etc.
2. They identify with a different personality of a different gender/sex and become different by their behaviour or thinking or dress etc.
3. They don't identify as a person at all, they're completely disassociated. In this state I think they'd be close to schizo because they'd be pretty out of it.
