When we had that dual income coming in, the money was as addictive as crack. When your household income is $160K/year and you only spend $45K/year on living expenses, it feels like you're drowning in money, and you never want that drowning feeling to stop. The only reason we retired is because the money got totally stupid -- we had like 55 years worth of living expenses saved up, so we just said "fuck it". But by that time it was a bit late to consider having kids. Oh, well.

so I'm a pretty wealthy guy (banker) and I was hanging out with some of my friends who are also fairly wealthy in one of their condos downtown, shooting the shit and just relaxing

and we're all pretty big fucking degenerates. we do drugs like its nothing, go clubbing twice a week, fuck random whores, etc

but we talked about our future and all of us wanted to have kids, even though we knew it would put us out of commission from the lifestyle that we enjoy (travelling, drugs, partying, etc)

so what I find odd there is that most of the people i know who are vehemently opposed to ever having kids are people that live pretty sedentary lives with not much going on anyway. I think what may be the reason is that these people are insecure about their own lifestyles and how exciting their own lives are, and as a result are reluctant to put a damper on it even though they themselves dont really engage in high-roller, childfree stuff like my friends and i do

what i'm trying to say is - if your goal is to be free and have fun, do it now. everyone does it now anyway, there's a reason old people at clubs are viewed as weird as fuck. have fun now and do fun shit and then live a normal life after. it's a traditional recipe for happiness.

and be realistic about who you are - if going hard isn't your thing, don't overcompensate by arbitrarily 'extending' your 'prime' by being childfree.

there is no better time than the present to do all these things; don't accommodate your future for them

food is half that without buying expensive "value added" packaged foods
clothing is much cheaper if you have a wife who knows how do do repairs and alterations
