Why is the southern accent so intrinsically hilarious?

I always thought that considering all the silly accents, southern is pretty boss. Manly in men and goofy-cute in women. Also easy to understand compared to most. I also have an unrealistically idealised image of Texan people for some reason but that's another topic.
