I would say if you're going to start smoking, roll your own.

Just buy a box of filters, a cigarette rolling machine, and then you can experiment with different tobaccos.

I used to smoke regular cigarettes, but these are much better. People have been smoking pipe tobacco for a long fucking time with no real bad signs. I'm more convinced that it's all the shit they put in it rather than tobacco itself.
