Not that guy, but just plug in numbers. You'll see that for any negative integer and all positive numbers 3 or greater the inequality holds true.

I'm a dropout but I think I remember this. if you take apart the straight lines then you end up with two possibilities, x-1 > 2 and x-1<-2. Then just solve for x
