Observation and analytical thinking is a good start. Willful ignorance is tempting, but try to avoid it while picking your knowledge. Understand that everything has a time tax on it. Knowledge doesn't come to you instantly and you're going to find that you'll have to choose what to spend your time on as you collect your knowledge. Youtube is a good example of this. Look at the times of every informative video. You can pick up a lot of knowledge that way, but at the same time, everything takes time that you'll never get back.
