Depression is caused by a lot of factors. Poor diet. Lack of sleep. Social isolation...

But no one is depressed from some magical, mystical "chemical imbalance" that no scentist can measure.

In the olden days, mentally ill meant exclusively things like schizophrenia, mental retardation, epilepsy, severe psychosis etc

Nowadays, the umbrella of mental illness has been widened to the point where things like depression, anxiety, lethargy and other emotional problems are considered to be within the same realm as those above mentioned lifelong debilitating diseases. And no matter how bad depression or anxiety gets, it is still better than hearing or seeing shit and going into convulsions.

Sure, depression sucks. I've been through it before. But I would never try and insult real suffering people by aggrandizing my own problems to be like them.
