The anime and the manga are the same.
But yes. Monster is pretty shit when you finish it
>>36281294
its what, like forty something episodes? i watched it all, and i felt like there was a LOT of fucking filler. many episodes didnt have anything to do with moving the plot forward. also the ending was pretty anti climactic in my opinion
>>36281415
I didn't think it was shit, but it didn't exactly have a clear or happy ending. I felt it worked with the psychological theme of the series.

Tried to get into this a couple months ago. Got about halfway in and quit. Can some autist explain the plot in its entirety and why it's so good?
>>36281294
I kind of want to watch it, but I don't really like when shows have more than 40 episodes.
If you can't tell your story in three cours, you're doing something wrong.
>>36281415
It was shit for you because you are a brainlet who never understood the show to begin with.
Go watch a youtube review, poo poo head.
This is the first anime I ever watched and it's still my favorite, really good stuff, and underrated. Them fucking feels.

Was ages since I saw it, but basically it's about an abolished brainwash program, taking place towards the end of the cold war, and assorted people who went through it, one kid in particular who's sort of the grand outcome of the whole venture (or was he the way he is from the start, you'll never really know), and this surgeon guy tries to track this kid down, meeting all sorts of interesting characters along the way connected to that project and getting clues.
It's nothing short of a masterpiece IMO, it captivates that atmosphere of europe around the last days of the Berlin wall excellently (yes I'm old enough to know this), The pacing is super even all the way from first to last ep. The bleak-ish coloration, the suspense, the often disturbed characters, the soundtrack, altogether I'm yet to see anything quite like it.

Just to add on, this surgeon (Kenzo Tenma) is one who operated on the boy (who killed his foster parents and had his sister shoot him) and saved his life, 20 some odd years later, the boy is trying to kill everyone connected with his past save Tenma, yet the surgeon ends up getting blamed for the murders and is trying to hunt down his former patient as a fugitive on the run. He's a really good example of character development.

This show is about human turns to a monster.
The term 'monster' in this show refer to a human that did horrible thing but doesn't feel a damn about it.
Every character in this show has done something horrible and they're regretted it, 'cause regret is a proof that we're still human.
And our main antagonist is a monster, and his monsterness makes us realize that we aren't any better than the 'monster' term itself.

The ending was pretty stupid

Personally I would've wanted an ending where Johan died, but it was an absolutely fine conclusion
