Thanks for the content, I enjoyed reading through it.

For me Misaki is something pure I hope to find some day in real life. I know a non-fictional version does not really exist, but thinking about it makes me feel good nevertheless. Misaki is not like the insincere - and often degenerate - females you would meet in reality.

Still, despite me loving Misaki as a character I can not lie/deny that me loving the anime/novel itself so much has made me like her and think of her more. She would stand out in any other anime, that's for sure. How much though I can not say.

Since I'm talking about wanting to find Misaki; a friend like Yamazaki is something I long for just as much. He doesn't get the credit he deserves in my opinion.

What about you? What are your reasons?

I feel very similarly to you. I know that she doesnt exist but I need her to. I know that the whole point of the story is that noones going to magically drop out of the sky to fix all your problems but I need her to.

I just want her in my life. I want to try to make her feel better about herself while she tries to do the same for me. And we'll fail a lot because we're both broken ugly people full of self loathing and mental illness but that would be okay because we'd always love each other. I would hug her with all my strength and whisper into her ear, "It's not your fault at all, Misaki. Not a single part is your fault."

I think that it's a shame that Takimoto is unable to write more. The novel is flawed in a few ways, but his experience with the subject (and writing skill) made him able create a very intriguing and relatable story. Even if more work from him was about a new franchise/series I would look forward to it a lot.

I suppose your right anon. As much as I love her as a character I also kind of see her as a metaphor for getting my life together. I desperately dont want to die as an alcoholic shut in. Maybe Ill get my life together one day, maybe "Misaki" (whatever helps me pull myself together) really will show up on my doorstep one day and Ill be able to leave the house again and make lots of friends and live a decent life. But Im not sure I can do that without her.

Yeah the 1st and 2nd afterwords of the reprints are heartbreaking. Knowing that there was someone like me out there and that he could write something like that and then simply hole himself away again to rot makes me want to die.

While I agree with you, I think it's worded kind of harshly. The manga is still a very good manga/story. In the end you're better off watching the anime and reading both the novel and the manga. It's interesting to see the differences and every version offers it's own "advantages" and positive points. Of course, for a rewatch or reread you should do whatever you like - as long as you have checked out all other versions!

The message of NHK in the end is kinda depressing tho

Can't agree on that one with you anon. For me personally Hitori Bocchi is much better. It's a good song in itself (even if it wouldn't be part of the anime), but it always has a pretty big impact on me when I listen to it too.

But the ED is definitely great. The entire OST is great. I can't think of any other anime that has a good OST like that that fits the mood and theme of the show so perfectly.

I have seen it a few times. I like the show, and the OST fits really well indeed if you think about it. Still, it doesn't compare to the OST of NHK ni Youkoso for me with the main reason being it not having the same emotional impact.
