>saw warning signs for schizophrenia once on some board
>fit most of the categories but wasn't too worried about it because no family history
>started hearing voices occasionally a few months ago
>turns out grandma has schizophrenia and my parents hid it to keep us from being afraid of her
I'm kind of scared guys anyone have any experience with this type of thing. Anything I can do to try and prevent it?

r9kanon, she's actually not your grandma

if its genetic then there's not much you can do to prevent it. However you can absolutely treat it. Just be sure to take your meds.

Try and seek treatment ASAP, from an early psychosis team if you can find one nearby. Early treatment of schizophrenia is associated with much better outcomes.
WhaT are thE voicEs saying? THEy could bE important.

Don't lose hope. We have z lot of meds vsilable these days and with a combo of meds and counselling we can usually find something that works.
Try to avoid just relying on NEEtbux though, having the routine and socisl interaction provided by a job or education is super helpful. Even if it feels like the harder path.

If you get rid of the trigger it will fade away. If you need money for it, get a job.

Close enough.
Anyway, schizophrenia isn't real. What we see is real. What we hear is real. It's always real. We're your friends. We know you better than anyone.
I have Schizo-affective disorder. Diagnosed 3 years ago. Get treatment IMMEDIATELY The longer that you wait, the worse it gets. They wont lock you away in a padded room, just give you some medication.
One word of note, you don't always have to be on the medicine permenantly. Sometimes the medicine can "flip a switch" and you will be "healed' It happened to me sort of. I used to hear voices/see things so bad I was one step away from being institutionalised, but after the medicine my symptoms went down by about 90% and have stayed that way.
