What a shit doctor. If you can find these books online they might help you "The food hourglass" and "How not to die".
Basically:
- Remove most starch and carbohydrates stuff such as pasta, potatoes, pizza and bread
- Replace with beans, oatmeal, nuts, mushrooms and vegetables
- Whole grains are ok but not perfect due to high glymic index
- No soda (drink tap water, tea, maybe coffee), no sweets (dark chocolate and fruit is good, especially soft fruit such as blackberries), no fastfood (meat is ok, just not processed meat)

That is what I've been learned hope it helps you
