Did you even bother to read Eric's diary? It should be pretty damn obvious.

The world pisses someone off their entire life and not allow them to live they way they wish, this is the natural result when they decide "fuck it" when they realize they'll never get to live the way they wish.

They grw to hate the world and the people around them so they decided they wanted to leave their mark on history and get the highest body count they could while they still had the opportunity to be in a high school where everyone was guaranteed to be unarmed and they as students could simply get in there and have it be "situation normal" before they just started killing everyone around them.

Basically teen angst in addition to a supreme lack of inhibition on the part of Eric Harris, who was a sociopath....Dylan on the other hand was just a loyal friend who was probably manipulated by Eric.

If the Columbine massacre had never been carried out, Eric would probably have done something else greatly malevolent down the line, Dylan may just be a normie today.

Most young men feel the urge to kill everyone they don't like around them at some point growing up, Eric as a sociopath was just too compulsive.
