If i'm not wrong that's not how death by hanging is supposed to work. It's not supposed to choke you to death, it's supposed to break your neck. that's why old timey gallows were a platform raised up above ground level. the rope's around your neck, you fall, and the force of your body weight being concentrated in your neck by the rope breaks your neck and you die.

There's different types. One is classified as "substantial drop", which is what you're referring to. The fall breaks the neck preventing you from moving your body and then you die a few minutes later.

The one in the OP though is classified as "simple suspension". In this case, you hang from the neck but you don't suffocate nor break your neck. The rope/noose applies pressure to the carotid artery, causing a lack of blood flow to the brain and fall unconscious within just a few seconds depending on how much pressure is applied. If you remain unconscious and undisturbed for something like ten minutes, the brain starves and you die completely. It works the same exact way that a sleeper hold does, only, in this case, the pressure is not let up upon losing consciousness.
