How've you been, OP?
have you ever met someone with tourette syndrome? if so, what was your reaction?

Hard times and good times recently. I'm really liking this Daylight Saving Time and have started to relish any amount of sunlight I can get. I've even thought about getting a UV lamp.

I have met a few kids with Tourette's syndrome when I worked as a substitute teacher. The experience was not pleasant, but it did educate me. Saw some other disorders too. I quit teaching not long after that.

Why did you quit teaching?
>>36082468
what do you mean by not pleasant?

Looking back it was probably because I was completely unprepared and untrained for it. The process of becoming a sub is extremely simple. Have a Bachelor's degree and get tested for tuberculosis. That's it. Then you start getting calls from teachers to come in and take over their class for the day.
I had no educational training at all, and had no clue how to handle the classrooms. I had another opportunity to work for the U.S. Census that came up not longer after so I jumped at that. It was the best job I ever had.

The same children that had Tourett's syndrome also had varying levels of sociopathy and I had to be very careful what I said around them. One of the teaching assistants wore a heavy leather jacket each day because the children would often bite or attempt to stab with pencils and scissors.
He later died in a house fire. I didn't know how very well but that death has stuck with me.

If he needed it, or I needed it, probably. Human contact of any kind is necessary for a healthy mind.
