Why do liberals love 1984, but hate Brave new world ?
>>
>>36076774
My brother and his wife are hardcore liberal lawyers who live in colorado and like both
>>
>>36076774
Because republicans are using it as a guidebook so it's important to know what's coming.
>>
>>36076774
>implying liberals have actually read either and didn't just read the fucking wiki or sparknotes synopsis
>implying they read at all
>>
>>36076812
Have you ever seen his wife naked?
>>
>>36076812
i'm a single-robot-nobody in co and i've decided to dislike both books on account of their being the hijacked and used as how-to-guides by the illuminati
>>
BNW is pretty shit compared to 1984.
>>
>>36076774
whats wrong with brave new world? the betas are finally happy there ;_;
>>
>>36076774
Im a liberal and i like both. 1984 is better but they are both relevant
>>
>>36076774

I have no idea what you are talking about. They're both great books. In many ways Brave New World is superior.

I'm socially pretty liberal.
>>
>>36076928
>the betas are finally happy there ;_;

That's what I think about too when I imagine Brave New World.

Everyone knows their place. Everyone has a place. Everyone is conditioned to enjoy their place.

Better than being a short ugly omega male like me trying to compete among Chads because I was raised to believe I "could accomplish anything".
>>
>>36076774
Brave New World is very poorly written if you view it as a dystopia. Don't view it as a dystopia.
>>
>>36077097
>They're both great books. In many ways Brave New World is superior.

Meaning I found 1984 a more realistic dystopia but quite dull and dreary.

While Brave New World was less realistic but wonderfully imaginative.
>>
>>36077189
only ones who it was sort of dystopic for were the extremely religious people
>>
1984 has an easier to grasp concept.
>the gov is evil and controls everyone
vs
>the people cease to care about the state of their life and can blame nobody but themselves
>>
>>36076774
BNW is even worse than 1984 because at least in 1984 the wrongness is palpable and very obvious. It makes it much easier for a rebellious spirit to identify what they have a problem with.
>>
>>36077097
While they're often paired, 1984 and Brave New World seem to be about fundamentally different things to me.

>1984 is the experience of an ordinary party member in a Stalinist-but-more-so dystopia, showing how utter government control can warp the thoughts of its subjects to sustain itself
>Brave New World's government actually at least somewhat believes its own ideology is the greater good, and it arose from a philosophical conflict and actual war between a form of industrialist modernism and Christianity, liberalism (explicitly stated as an opposed to the government's conditioning by Mond), and other older schools of thought

Both are essentially timeless in their themes, but Brave New World especially makes sense in the context of early 20th century industrialism. There was essentially a proto-singularitanism that the mechanical advances of the age would free humanity from the struggles of scarcity and nature, with quite a few anticipating the complete automation of production (they may well have been right in the end, but their timescale was off). Current techno-optimism at least has a few Silent Springs balancing it out.
>>
>>36076774
Because Orwell was a socialist so they see him as their guy. Also, liberal dystopia would more likely result in a Brave New World rather than totalitarian 1984, but since you made this thread you probably already knew that.
>>
Because "A Brave New World" is satire and humourous, whereas "Nineteen Eighty Four" was meant to be a serious warning of where the world was headed.
>>
I lack the attention span to read either.

If you go look at good reads reviews most normies can't even get through the book.
>>
>John was a robot
>Bernard was a robot
>Helmholtz was a robot
Anyone else notice this?
>>
I didn't read 1984 yet. I did read Brave New World though, and I liked most of it, but by the end I remember it just spiraling down into the "savage" basically quoting Shakespeare all the fucking time and fawning over his waifu.

It's been a few years, do I remember it wrong?

Liberal here.

I loved the book and the extended edition. He has a lot to say on the nature of brainwashing. The whole idea of beating a dog until it breaks and then coming in to re-write it's internal programming with new commands, and the way the easiest way to brainwash someone is to convince them they are being brainwashed so they only believe you, these ideas totally reminds me of agitprop shills' interaction with the poor bastards here.
>>
>>36076774
Because we are living in Brave New World and its the future liberals want for us.

Fact if you agree with brave new world but support legalizing weed you are a hypocrit and a idiot

I thought the problem was all the orgies, artificial pheromones and constant subliminal messaging enforcing social order, but no, there's literally no way to enjoy smoking pot except every goddamn day before the 12:00 orgy, and whenever you're feeling a little blue, with total disregard for all side effects. You sure got me.

>>
>>36076774

they hate brave new world?

back in the day my liberal jewish english teacher taught brave new world but not 1984
>>
I have never perceived a liberal preference for either one over the other. I would describe myself as a liberal and my opinion is that Brave New World is perhaps less memorable and frightening, but much much more relevant and important.
