Are you serious?

Anyway it's mainly that there aren't many bosses, codec convos aren't that interesting, escorting Emma is a drag, gameplay is in an awkward phase between 1 and 3 so it's fidgety, and the Arsenal Gear section is only cool when you experience it the first time
>>
>>36068676
>snake/raiden bait and switch
>timed underwater escort mission
>and then she dies anyway
Kojima is the best.
>>
>>36068697
Surprisingly playing as Raiden never bugged me. Probably because I pretty much already knew it was a thing
>>
>tfw you are Raiden without a Rose gf
>>
>>36068676
Yes. I played that game when I was 10 and I had a panic attack at that part.
>>
>>36068715
Mostly only American self-identifying gamers got upset.

You mean on the last one when you're on a timer?
>>
>>36068484
Metal gear is god-tier

You just don't know good video games same with Last of Us.
>>
>>36068759
I love Metal Gear, but 2 isn't high art like people on /v/ claim

that would be 3

>>

2 is better for that fourth wall breach effect and 3 is cooler as a fantasy story

I enjoyed MGS2 and playing as Raiden didn't really bother me or anything. The boss fights were pretty good, the underwater escort was horrible and the sword fight at the end was godtier
>>
>>36068775
3 was pretty tight. I forget the one on ps4 I got to like 74% completion but then you are just doing repetitive side missions that just stop being fun after awhile because you just roll in and shoot the place up, and that's it.
>>
I replayed the boss fights a bunch of times
>>
>>36068803
I meant in character not in attractiveness hehe
>>
>>36068788
That one nearly got me on the first play through. Good little trick.
>>
>>36068810
Wasn't there a survival mode where you play against the bosses that was unlocked once you completed the game, or am I thinking of the VR expansion?
>>
>>36068484
Because MGS2 was only an OK game. If the graphics at the time hadn't been super dope I doubt it would've sold half as many copies.

But goddamn those shots back then where troops would shoot out the glass next to you.

Because it wasn't great. It was mostly rehashed concepts and more shit-tier dialogue, with a main protagonist that only Asians and weaboos could ever find redeeming.
Seriously wanted to murder Raiden, almost every time he was on screen.
The only reason that game was lauded at all, was because of the hype generated from the first game.
>>
>>36068808
Have you tried Peace Walker? Super good. It's pretty much Metal Gear 3-2. It's also on the PS3 I think or whatever.
>>
>>36068873
Personally I was able to identify a lot with Raiden. He isn't such a terrible character

I wish so many things were different.

I'm sorry snek.
>>
>>36068904
You have no personality or depth too?
>>
>>36068891
I got a game that had snake eater, and two both on it, I 1 was also on it, but I never played 1. The game play was like 3rd person and you were always looking down. Just made it annoying.
>>
>>36068990
do most special forces people have much personality to begin with? They're basically just cocky super chads

metal gear solid is a fantasy we love to mentally masturbate about, like so many other things.

I'm looking for meaning with what I got.

The tricky part is deciding what was destined and what is choice, and how strong is my choice? My will? My clarity?

I fear these questions. I want to grow up.
>>
>>36068990
Pretty much but while Raiden has a troubled past and a bland personality he has skills to complete his mission
>>
>>36069013
Doesn't Snake even have that much depth?
Sure, he's charismatic, badass and always focused on his mission while still being able to sound like a charismatic badass but what else is there to him? I mean I like the character but he's not exactly the deepest of all characters out there.
>>
>>36069008
You can change the camera, you know.

>>36069079
What kind of "skills" could you use to "complete your mission?" Fuckstick.

>>36069158
Oddly, yes. Snake is a terrible liar and it's really never obviously pointed out. His VAs have done a great job of consistently putting awkwardness and spaghetti into his voice whenever he lies. If you pay attention you'll notice. There's also the fact Snake is in denial about why he does what he does. I forget which game but there's a moment where he confesses he kind of gets off on killing people. So Snake isn't as great as he seems. Sure he'll say it's for honor and country and "the mission" or whatever dumb shit but that's not the entire truth.
>>
>>36069008
give one a chance, it's really good
>>
>>36069158
>We know Snakes backstory and personality from the first MGS game
>Personality is likable across cultural barriers
>Raiden is largely the standard awkward rookie anime character we've all seen a million times in other stories
>Basically a somewhat effeminate high school kid with assassin skills who speaks in a grating voice
>Only really appeals to those who immerse themselves in Asian cultures
>Personality too weak and whiny to translate across cultural barriers
>>
>>36069158
Naked Snake had a lot of personality

MGS3 is my favourite of the series, anyway.
>>
>>36069239
The will to continue
>>
>>36069266
Naked Snake is just rippoff Solid Snake. Their purpose for making Big Boss a protagonist was simply as a way to continue the story.
He was just a copy paste job of Solid, though.
Weak af.
And once again, MGS3, like MGS2, was just a rehash of the story structure of MGS1, but in set in the 1960s.
Hideo Kojima is a one-note hack.

>>
>>36069158
what does it really mean to be deep anyway?

Snake understands how the world works, his place in it and understands he has choice, he also has experience he draws upon to give insights into being a soldier that he characteristically expresses to others, most of his life is dealing with causality vs determinism in a complex and threatening world.

Snake is competent version of us, that average person, his talent is the battlefield. He chooses, probably on faith, to be a force for good and it's very contemporary to the modern secular world. He admits he doesn't know much about living, he's constantly trying to figure it out.

something about him is captivating though, many young men have joined the military because they idolize him I've seen.

>>36069330
>3 is just a remix of 1, set in the 1960s
I played it. I wasn't impressed.
>>
>>36069324
3 is a very different story from 1
>>
>>36069324
Nobody cares. Konami knew we wanted more Solid Snake so they just gave us Solid Snake again and changed his name. And infiltrating places while meeting cute women and destroying Metal Gears is what the whole series is about you dip.

I don't think anyone plays for Hideo's shitty writing.

I love those games deeply which bothers me since it's just a childhood infatuation I carried into "adult life". I hate feeling connected to characters because I lose them the longer I'm away from them...hm, I have no friends and that's probably why. I always felt like I have to move on to the next stage in my life but standing on the diving board for so long and not jumping in to anything everyone has left the show and now I'm alone and it's just me and the cold depths.
